The weirdest thing about the Iran war is the way the oil prices keeps bouncing up and down as if something good happened then something bad happened when in fact only bad things have happened.

It has been 30 years and I am still not on board with terminal UIs. GUIs are better. I don't know why we are as a profession allowing ourselves to regress.

And speaking of NPM (which GitHub owns), postinstall.js is a decision worth reconsidering. So is "always download the latest version of all dependencies". The justification was to push the latest security fixes immediately, but more often these days it pushes the latest malware immediately instead.

The AI harness engineering hype is basically just people finding out that with leaner design, good encapsulation, simpler code, improved tools, working CI/CD and precise documentation one can be more effective at writing correct code.

What's going on with sound mixing? In the last few years, especially but not exclusively in British TV, the audio mix renders dialogue inaudible. The actors mumble; ambience and sometimes the music drowns them out. It wasn't always like this. /1
