Half the point of a government is that you and me do not have the wherewithal to pay attention to this shit on a constant basis and so the government needs to regulate the fucking egg people and the fucking beef people and the fucking whatever people so that food is as safe as it can be.
the wikipedia article "Official Cantonese translations of English names for British officials" has a fairly long section about how one english governor got his name translated to toilet bowl and this motivated setting up a translation service for names
