My takeaway from that speech is that we are headed down the road of Trump trying to outright rig elections. It probably won't work, but he's going for it.

You can understand the Iranian regime is oppressive and murderous and also understand that this war of aggression against it is illegal and immoral and that those who will suffer the most from it are the people of Iran.
Sure would be a good time to have not laid off your entire Middle East bureau.
It would be nice if statements by members of Congress on the U.S. attack on Iran started with something like: “This attack is an unconstitutional usurpation of Congress’s war powers.”
It would be cool to have a legislature that acted to defend its own constitutional prerogatives and, maybe as a treat, the interests of the people it represents too.

This skips that last step, and that is *not* an improvement.

Yesterday, I awoke to news of another ICE killing in MN. On Bluesky, the conversation was deeply critical of ICE. But I wanted to see how things were going on X. Surprisingly, the attempts there to blame the victim weren't getting as much traction as I suspected. So I wrote a thing.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
