Universities “are increasingly acting like other employers, finding “complicated and sometimes pretextual reasons” to fire employees, even those with tenure. “What we’re seeing at the New School is emblematic of the rising pressures on higher education as a labor market and as an industry”

He Had Tenure. The New School Laid Him Off Anyway.

The professor, a longtime critic of the university, was among 19 educators who lost their positions as the institution navigated financial woes.

Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe

Looks like the only poll in the last month which is likely to get the result within the margin of error is the one that AES tried claiming was funded by AIPAC (that was Stevens +1 but the margin of error for each was +/- 2.5%)

I've barely have thought about changing a lightbulb in the last decade, at home or in the car, or have not worried about accidentally leaving them on draining my battery or bank account. I'd say that's a win.

So, uh, a candidate who suspended his campaign a month ago is winning a landslide against a Trump endorsed candidate because of anti-Muslim prejudice against a guy who is not Muslim (and I guess probably also just regular racism). How often does a candidate who suspended their campaign win?

Seems like an upset might be brewing in the GOP primary in #MI08 to take on Dem Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet. Trump endorsed Amir Hassan, but he currently trails an absolute nobody who suspended his campaign a month ago by a wide margin.

FWIW I'm optimistic about a really epic video game renaissance enabled by AI (even when it's not used for final art or acting, just coding and dummy assets) but it's gonna be an ugly ride to get there and a lot of ppl are going to have their livelihoods blown to smithereens along the way.

I feel like people are underrating how extremely bearish this is re: the overall health of the videogame industry. Major investors normally don't let a company get taken private unless they think that there's no major growth left in it. And EA was the most consistently profitable company.

I think the assessment of the industry, which I think is correct, is that audience sizes aren't growing and dev costs are spiraling faster than revenue. So even if you hold IPs with major consistent microtransaction revenues, its just not a place worth being in anymore.

EA officially goes private tonight, meaning: - EA will no longer trade on the NASDAQ for the first time in 36 years - All stockholders of EA (including many employees) will receive $210/share - EA will take on $18 billion (!) in debt, putting it on the hook to pay ~$1.8 billion/year in interest
