Following up on my post yesterday - announcing I will be off LinkedIn (and Bluesky) for all of August. I was off-platform this January, and I just wrote an article all about my experience. www.karlschmidt.net/No-Linkedin-.... It answers the why, how, and how it went.

No LinkedIn Month

For all of January 2026 I banned myself from LinkedIn. Hiatus. Break. Fast. Experiment. Why It seemed drastic, but upon reviewing how I spent my time, energy, and attention in 2025, it was clear that ...

The greatest lesson I’ve learned over the too many years I’ve been doing this is to compartmentalise the shame I feel over promoting stuff. There are two Mikes: the Mike that thinks posting promo more than twice a day is cringe, and the Mike who wants to keep making games for a living, so fuck it

It worked for sure. I thought of wishlisting twice when you announced, but they you got all pushy and I actually took the time. I’m sad this is an effective play 😂

I am so tired of people who can't code telling me about how AI helps them code to 1% of the ability of a professional, which sure is 10x for them. It's like me telling people that the invention of music theory will make actual musicians obsolete because now I, too, can write chords that sound OK.

Hello World, I'm open for employment once more, I was affected by the Microsoft/Xbox layoffs at Obsidian I want to thank my former co-workers for the last few years of unforgettable moments and fulfilling one of my childhood wishes in working for one of my favorite game devs growing up.

Oh just FYI we've crossed the 10K threshold for number of people in the games industry laid off so far this calendar year. only 11 layoff waves shy of the total for 2023. 6 months to go.

games industry layoffs.

Bought Titanfall 2 on Steam, trying to play it for the first time. Get an error about "link2ea://"....so I think, I'll start that EA desktop app. I start it, and log in. Run Titanfall 2 again. I get further, now wants me to sign into EA again, with the other instance running?

Console prices are rising, Steam Machine pricing is higher than originally planned. Look at RAM/SSD prices for a new PC. We game developers need to focus on performance and efficiency more than ever. Not just for the games, but our tools.

Unreal Engine 6 thoughts: Blueprints going away. This is an opportunity to maintain support in a branch, since engine source is provided (easier said than done, I know). It's also an opportunity for a 3rd-party solution to continue support. 🤔

Sad that I can't legally buy + play this nor The Path of Neo anymore. I had the PS2 version of the latter but my aging PS2 laser was too weak, wouldn't boot the game. I tried reaching out to WB to do a remaster several times, never heard back

i really love how inscrutable the fucking Enter the Matrix launcher is...what is any of this shit. "allow gamma". "force object lod". force it to what. on? off? min? max? what is meant by w-buffer. what the fuck is Classical FPS

I find the framing of "if you aren't using AI for coding you must be some artisan craftsperson or luddite" really confusing. There are IDEs and lots of automation tools and assistance that have and will continue to be used and evolved. Stuff that is actually efficient, deterministic, and ethical.
