GOP Senators John Kennedy and Ted Cruz devised this off-ramp, Kennedy says on Fox: "Senator Thune submitted that to President Trump. As is his right, he said no. ‘No deals with the Democrats.’ It would have worked. We could have had TSA paid by the end of the week. But the president said no deal."

I just had virtually the same conversation with my nephew (humanities edition) - he’s graduating college in May and had wanted to go into academia but says it’s totally infeasible with so many departments not taking grad students and funding drying up. We’re losing an entire generation of scholars.
My teen, who had dreamt of being an astrophysicist, just told me he wants to go to law school because, “Science isn’t going to be a priority in the US in the future…I don’t want a job where I’ll be constantly worried my funding will be taken away.” Gutting. How many future scientists have we lost?
Of course my first post on here will be shameless self-promotion. I have two books coming out imminently. Cambridge is offering 20% off until the end of April with this discount code TCCCR2026 www.cambridge.org/9781009295130

Yes everything is terrible but let’s not lose sight of the fact that someone has written the Headline to End All Headlines.
Mainstream America: We are obsessed with Heated Rivalry and Drag Race. We love them and can't get enough. American Democrat politicians: LGBT people are not culturally normal. We will not speak of them.

Years ago our admin did a red and black report. It took salaries & how much $ each instructor made in tuition $ for classes we taught-you were in the red or black. They released numbers once & shut it down bc humanities were producing huge $ for uni & engineers, business and scientists were losing $
These are “low enrollment” majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.

Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didn’t drop the rod. WTF

The US Justice Department withheld testimony that Donald Trump sexually abused a girl when she was 13 or 14 - according to a source who viewed unredacted Epstein files. This is the worst scandal in US history and should be the biggest news story on the planet right now. www.npr.org/2026/02/24/n...

Had to be at least a decade ago that a NPR show hosted a historian who had published a book on the Stasi and the SS. It turned out the SS et al., had not been the magical intelligence machines at all but had relied almost entirely on neighbors lining up to rat out each other.
i've decided not to listen to the audio of a teacher reporting a kindergartender because frankly I don't want to become the person that that event would turn me into. but one thing I hope we are collectively coming to grips with is what it meant that we have lived among such people this whole time

It is almost as if this could apply to all the corporatization of youth sports. Let kids (and I mean all the way up to ... and through? ... college) have fun. Don't keep making youth sports a scholarship/trophy case monstrosity.
four years ago, figure skating looked like a sport where the way to win was by driving literal children to the point of mental breakdown with Alysa Liu's win, it looks like a sport where the way to win is giving your talented skaters agency, the freedom to be themselves, and letting them find joy
Loved watching the women’s figure skating today. So much joy on ice. I’ll need to watch a replay of the women’s hockey, too.
She never lived to see this moment, but it’s worth remembering that none of this would have happened without Virginia Giuffre. She had the courage to speak out against power and privilege when it was just her word against Andrew’s. Thanks to her, justice & accountability may finally have its day.
(3) But the Democrat view is also bad: while it's fine for people at Princeton and Harvard to study Latin and Sanskrit, public higher education is about job training and $ ROI. There is no room for the idea that curiosity-driven inquiry is a good that should be supported by the public.
