had a situation where I was stuck in traffic & my taxi driver thought that just because I was white I would agree with his Islamophobia. I truly had no idea what to say in that moment that would challenge him without pissing him off.

people thinks it’s funny when i say i have my own headcanons for my characters/stories. they’re like, “you’re the author so it’s canon, no?” and im like. yeah. kinda. but the only canon stuff in my head is the stuff the readers get?

Leiden Pride is today & I found A Fix of Light in my local bookshop!!! 🥺🫶🏻🏳️‍🌈 So amazing to think this little guy travelled all the way to the Netherlands! I signed it obviously ;^)

It’s 33°C in Leiden, which is the only reason I’m not mad that two college students just sprayed me with a single blast from a water gun when I passed them in the street. Totally straight-faced, didn’t even look back to see my reaction.

I was so delighted to have the opportunity to write this piece about witnessing our loved ones transition into death. I have a few more articles coming out over the next while about grief, love, and the body. rip.ie/grief-and-be...

Keeping Watch: An Irish Reflection on the Vigil and the Transition Into Death | rip.ie

An intimate reflection on Irish traditions of keeping vigil, witnessing the dying, and the deep love found in being present at the end of life. | rip.ie

i hang out with a lot of 4th graders and their favorite books are about greek mythology, historical tragedies, or violent politics as enacted by dragons and/or cats. the children do not long for verisimilitude! they long for extremity, danger, humor, and heroism!!

It’s perfectly acceptable to raise practical, mechanical and logistical complaints about generative AI but on a fundamental level my problem with it is that I think it’s an affront to the essence of humanity.

The Irish government paid for the current kidnapping of citizens by continuing to trade with Israel. Anyone who votes against full sanctions tomorrow is not only refusing to help, but actively funding the piracy

This is your periodic reminder that word of mouth moves more books than any formal advertising! I invite you to rec something you've recently enjoyed -- preference for the stuff that's *not* already extremely well-known and talked about everywhere.

Writing an article about Irish traditions relating to grief, and wondered if folks wouldn’t mind sharing a little about how they keep memories of their loved ones with them/alive? E.g. I know my granny is making herself known when Ravel’s Boléro comes on the radio. GRMA!!! #spéirgorm
