Jon and Vangelis - Short Stories (1979) #vinyl This dog-eared charity shop bought album was always a bit too crackly for my liking. Just got an ultrasonic clean and it’s sounding magnificent. There was a synergy between the two that comes across so well here. Lovely stuff

Hadn’t played this LP in around 30 years before I put it on last night. Had low expectations but fell completely in love with it all over again, from Cropper’s brilliant guitar on Ole Man Trouble to those pained ballads - A Change Is Gonna Come, I’ve Been Loving You Too Long, & Miss Your Water. Wow!

The story of An Englishman Abroad takes place in Moscow, but the Caird Hall and Whitehall Theatre in Dundee were used in the production as were several places in Glasgow. Worth a watch tonight on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social

King Crimson - Beat (1982) #qobuz At the nexus of art & prog rock for several albums, KC managed to produce a small run of three LPs that sound accessible, dynamic and musically challenging. Produced by the band and Rhett Davies this one caused some tension within the band but is excellent

Sad to hear of the death of John Douglas. I was fortunate to see the Trashcan Sinatras in 2004 when they did a Scottish Arts Council sponsored short tour of smaller town venues. The Brunton Hall in Musselburgh wasn’t that full but they filled the place with their sublime songs many written by John

Late to this - as per usual - but what an incredible film. The ratcheting up of tension again and again. No spoilers but the climax is almost an anticlimax after such a build up. In my head Dorothy Vallens life has taken a turn to become Sister Agnes - played perfectly by Isabella Rossellini 👌
