Like half the candidates running for office seem to have no platform or issues they care about, and that seems bad for America.
I’m on a small-ship Alaska cruise with my son; our boat rescued a stranded vessel last night and apparently we did that after the Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht - which was closer - and they repeatedly refused to respond. (There was near unanimous booing when the captain announced this)
Must read speech for Alaska business and policy folks #akleg

Speech by Governor Cook on the outlook for the U.S. and Alaskan economies
Thank you, Jon, for that kind introduction. It is an honor to be here in Alaska. I appreciate the invitation from the Anchorage Economic Development Corporatio

The dirty soda trend has made me realize bullying may have a place in society.

if you make the mistake of talking with your kids now you might be stuck talking with them your WHOLE LIFE www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...
Now, Thanks to Sam Altman, You Never Have to Speak to Your Kids Again
AI can handle these kinds of pointless interactions.

This 100x! My main issue with the idea of "workforce pipelines" is that we presuppose it is the university's job to turn out certain types of workers like a game of "Age of Empires" rather than providing the best education we can and letting our students (who are adults) figure out their own lives
Finally, college students are adults. Instead of being paternalistic, lets just provide transparent information about life paths supported hy that major and then let them choose for themselves. N/N
Other dads: I don’t get this Common Core crap, it’s not how I learned math. Me: I used to tutor and I find it analogous to how I sometimes had to find different ways to explain the same problem to different kids, to give them all avenues to understanding. Other dads: *move to a different room*
Either I'm going nuts or the UA and ASD spring break dates are a week apart, and I can think of no reason for this. Seems like something that would need to be fixed soon
Nonresident oil workers arguably contribute more to Alaska than the average Alaskan if your metric is paying for public safety, schools, roads, etc
This is exactly what is happening. The hypocrisy of academic administrators (on 12 month contracts) celebrating wellness & work/life balance “programming” while insisting on 9 month contracts for faculty that accrue no vacation days and inadequate sick time traps anyone w/ a serious illness. 👎
Like 100% of political candidates who are from AK acknowledge this when they brag about being born on the Kenai or growing up fishing or whatever
If Alaska cares about the net migration problem, taking your kids fishing should be counted as economic development

LinkedIn culture is ruining the proud American tradition of hating your job and preferring your hobbies and time with family
A good question for any candidate for any office is "if the goodies you are promising me are free and I don't have to give up anything, why hasn't anyone else in your party who is already in office already done it?"
Kinda wild in the year 2026 the only on screen family I can think of that regularly attended religious services is still the Simpsons.

The UAA Testing Center is Southcentral Alaska’s only comprehensive, all-in-one physical testing hub, and it is closing without a replacement.

Alaska travel. Oh no, we're stuck another day. What will I do?!?
As the US industrialized, workers and businesses entered protracted labor disputes over what a fair pay increase would be to keep up with the cost of living. Workers thought businesses were gaslighting them about how much prices were going up...🧵
holy moly @hausofdecline.bsky.social in @inthesetimes.com ???
This is a good example of the "sticky misery ephemeral bliss" problem of misinformation. The college affordability crisis of the 2010s has largely been addressed. Nobody knows this.
