I'm really proud of this story, but it's also a vulnerable one, so I won't pretend I'm not a little scared about it going out into the world. Why am I like this?! — me, writing content warnings for a submission to spare the poor first reading team.
when i write something? it's in conversation with something else. usually several somethings. a piece is never just: "Oh I wrote this cause I had an idea." the idea is the seed. and that seed took a bunch of other things to grow. something a friend said once, an article i read yesterday, a song...

Not every person can make the time, no. Maybe even a lot of people can't make the time. But. If you get up 1-2 hours earlier every morning.

Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine has always been one of my dream mags. Thanks to an amazing decade-long collab with Rich Larson, that dream is becoming reality. VISITING SKINS is about a bunch of terrible friends making appalling decisions out in the woods; I hope it'll sink its hooks into you.
Do not speak to me of "barriers to entry". Every act of creation is slicing out a thin sliver of light from the existential darkness of the human condition. You not being able to pick up a fucking pencil and risk failing does not even register.

Listen. I’m disabled with depression, neurodivergence and also chronic pain. I would rather put a fork in my eye than use AI to express any kind of creativity. Like, I’m a writer, and I would absolutely never use it for writing. I can’t draw. I’d still rather do a shitty drawing than use AI.
