Lutnick pushes fracturing of Canada: "This is about the Liberal Party & Carney trying to use a kerfuffle w/ the US to gai leverage. They've got the sovereign party vote in Quebec on Oct 5. They've got an independence vote that starts the process of Alberta, who always feels ripped off by Ottawa... "

For the first time in history, the national average price of gas for the month of August has been above $4 per gallon every single day. If it feels like it’s been the most expensive August at the pump, that’s because it is. End. The. War. apnews.com/article/stoc...

Oil prices rise and stocks fall after US hits Iranian sites in the Strait of Hormuz

Oil prices rose and U.S. stocks fell after American forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first military action in a month.

No no no you misunderstand: when I said "Women need to feel safe playing women's sports," I meant from an entirely hypothetical trans menace, not me, a random man currently harassing leading female athletes and turning every WNBA game into a political showdown

Trump is promising to boost the U.S. economy by making it harder for Americans to trade with the rest of the world. He is also promising to destroy Iran's economy by making it harder for Iranians to trade with the rest of the world.

It’s not about her; it’s about the guy who needs her constant adulation in addition to his sycophant cabinet and cult rallies and businesses bending the knee. The man is fubar in a grotesque and dangerous way. A psycho.

This has been really interesting to me. Ossoff made one vague, snide comment, and it's been the *Republicans* doing a kind of self-inflicted Streisand effect with it, making sure the whole world now knows who Natalie Harp is. Which seems crazy to me, but Republicans 🤷‍♂️

Jen Mercieca@jenmercieca.bsky.social · 3w ago

The Natalie Harp/Ossoff newscycle is interesting because it shows that Dems can cause newscycles too. Dems can say stuff and it can have an effect on what dominates the framewars. Dems can set the agenda. Most issues Dems want to talk about don't do this (why?). This one did (again, why?)

Jon Ossoff: "I don't think anything illustrates the times more aptly than that the draft-dodging crook president, who has plunged our nation recklessly into a war he knows not how to end or to win, tried to imprison this man who embodies American heroism."

Gifting this article Iran literally blew up the supply base in Bahrain that was meant to supply the aircraft carrier group Lincoln. Everything about this war has been a lie since day one. Was this made clear earlier? www.nytimes.com/2026/08/14/u...

Navy and USS Lincoln’s Problems Are Tied to Attacks on U.S. Base Early in War (Gift Article)

Diego Garcia, a tiny island 2,200 miles from the Gulf of Oman, took over as the Navy’s logistics hub after Iran damaged a base in Bahrain.

Time to retire “career prosecutor” as shorthand for “not in pocket of autocrat” “The career prosecutors who secured the subpoena, Matthew Skiba and William Hogan, both played roles in an ill-fated case against six protesters accused of assaulting federal agents…”

Our goal in the war we started Having failed to achieve any goals we had at the start Is now to undo some of the damage we caused to ourselves Which we are also failing at While swallowing other losses that are entirely our fault And leaving ourselves weaker While hoping you don’t notice

“That’s goal No. 1 — keep oil and gas cheap for Americans all over our country.” Goal No. 1 is undoing the mess created by POTUS. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. www.nbcnews.com/world/iran/l...

Every time Trump has gotten himself into a jam he's gotten someone to bail him out, or found some flaw in the system to exploit. Bankruptcy, dad's money, bad faith lawsuits, reluctant prosecutors, an anti-Constitution Supreme Court majority, etc. But the Iran war doesn't have anything like that.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social · last mo.

Good point from @nicholasgrossman.bsky.social here: Trump's usual corrupt machinations can't rescue him from failure in Iran. "Interstate war is the highest level of competition — there’s no system to manipulate, no entity that can bail him out. That leaves surrender." All that leaves is lying.

FYI: Blanche rescinded the ORDER establishing the slush fund, not the underlying “settlement.” The settlement says any changes must be agreed to by ALL parties, not just Todd. This “rescission” isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.

It's pretty infuriating that Trump is denying disaster aid to Oregon for political reasons and I have barely heard anything about it, while Biden was falsely accused of doing the exact same thing to North Carolina and millions of people believed that

The initial response to COVID-19 is similar to the withdrawal from Afghanistan, in that the crisis management was far from perfect and a serious after-action analysis would highlight valuable lessons learned, but any effort to do so is dwarfed by conspiracy theorists and liars trying to exploit it.

All the Fauci stuff is a modern day version of the POW/MIA stuff after Vietnam - a way to try to rewrite the history of a huge failure of conservative ideology to be instead a story about how liberals and foreigners stabbed us in the back.
