A couple of weeks ago I rode to Newburyport MA and saw this COVID memorial and realized this is the only one I have ever seen anywhere. And the fact that I nearly broke down seeing it is something I still think about.

For those who died and those who survived and all we list during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just got to use my a) newfound statistical knowledge wrt the number of Americans who have never actually met a Jewish person before b) good accent and prosody c) face-obscuring sun protective gear to blow the minds of the poor Mormon white boys wandering around the rural train station

Reading sociology papers about lolita subculture in Japan and everybody missing the gotdamn point. It's not about it being appealing or not appealing to men, it's about the fact that women in Japanese society are treated as a public utility and being a princess is a rejection of labor identity.

Horrible tetris complete! Welcome to the project, haunted bricks which I so painstakingly had to chisel the vitrified old mortar off of for the past 6 hours. The missing chunks at the front and in the middle are going to be covered by subsequent rows of brickwork so my sins will be hidden.

Current design paralysis: I have to refinish the oven and firebox doors before install and I can't decide what color. Options are: - matte black to match stovepipe - green to match other antique metal in kitchen - oil over the rust Not a fan of bright silver, but 2nd pic shows brick + grout color

Going insane due to lack of podcast updates, I am hopelessly dependent on a susurrus of kindly American English voices to keep the endogenous horrors at bay long enough to get anything done.

MASONRY HEATER FINALLY BEGINS!!! Most of this project is specc'd for clay/sand mortar, which has a long working period and can be rewetted in the event of fuckups, but the base layer has to be cement mortar so it sticks the slab. Getting everything level/straight/plumb/evenly spaced was harrowing.

When I tell you my neighbors are fucking stupid, I mean like, "spraying aerosols while simultaneously using an electric fly swatter to kill wasps in the attic of a thatched roof building" stupid. And of course they're spinning into WAOW WE SAVED THE UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE WITH THE POWER OF COMMUNITY!

Hey, that's a nice [THING YOU DO FOR PERSONAL PLEASURE], be a real shame if somebody were to [CONVINCE YOU TO MONETIZE IT, TRANSFORMING YOUR RELATIONSHIP INTO AN OBLIGATION AND ROBBING YOU OF JOY]

I went to an embroidery specialty shop in Kyoto today for doll-scale silk ribbon and the lady was blown away by Kosmos's dress that I had brought in to color check and she said that I should have an exhibit and that all the doll and sewing people in Nagoya who are mean to me are idiots :,)
