I'm not saying it doesn't HAPPEN, but "all weird indie TTRPGs are a kink thing" is reductive. There is also "designing RPGs to publish your worldbuilding bible", "designing RPGs because you invented a neat dice trick", "designing RPGs to win an argument", and "designing RPGs as an act of self harm".

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

i think you have to give late transitioners a little credit in that we have watched from the closet our whole lives how trans people were treated and we STILL made the courageous choice to start transition, knowing society hates us and that we are fighting biology and aging

I'd love to credit whoever wrote this. No idea. But I'm 100% with its message. When I think of how the '80s ethos, "Greed is Good" has metastasized, it surprises and depresses me. Imagine having so many millions, hundred of millions, even billions & caring about nothing except your own vanity.

I was an RA at a party school in the mid-2000s. Finding someone blackout drunk with their friends insisting they just need to sleep it off is nightmare shit. Watching freshmen deteriorate from alcohol-induced brain damage that we can do nothing to stop is nightmare shit. I'm not nostalgic for it.

I tried to post this in the Reddit but the Mod deleted it. Everyone in the comments on the post and on here is acting like that era was all sunshine and rainbows and, like, no it wasn’t?? Party culture was OPRESSIVE and often dangerous.

There are few deeper betrayals than checking out a video game on the strength of its story trailer and learning the cool alt girl is an NPC and the actual MC is some dude who's such a nonentity that he does not appear in the promotional material for the game of which he is the nominal protagonist.

My best friend's whole family died within two weeks of each other. Any time someone dropped out of contact for a while I was terrified they'd be next. My spouse got it after we'd been repeatedly vaccinated and lockdowns were a distant memory and they've never been sicker.

I know people who died. I know people who lost their jobs. Lost their homes. Had to live in their cars. know people who never fully recovered. I didn't get sick, but I lost most of my income and it has taken me years to get back to the point where i can just barely cover my expenses.

I find it deeply ironic that I voiced a meme about lacking media literacy and the comments are full of people who lack the media literacy to understand it. Mech fiction doesn't HAVE to be political, but most popular ones ARE political. And queer. To pretend otherwise is silly
