she/her Urban planner in training, annoying advocate in practice Sonoran Desert resident, monsoon enjoyer, daughter of love and liberty DSA, YIMBY, too online for my own good "moar trains and houses good"

For the sake of law professors. Yes, this means tenure is shit. Insulating shitty people from consequences is not something that other people are going to agree is good. "I can hit you, you can't hit me back" is not a ruleset anyone else is bound to respect.

Defending criticism of an institution or group of which you are a member by locking ranks and claiming outsiders haven't the right does not work. It simply convinces outsiders that the institution or group does not want to be fixed. You gotta kill your own criminals, not defend them.

between the Civil War and the 16th Amendment the federal government was basically entirely dependent on alcohol and tobacco. Big breweries were so confident that national prohibition could never take place because it would send the country into debt.

Problem with sin taxes is that a state may get fiscally addicted to the sin

Trying to imagine New York democrats treating upstate rurals the way that Mississippi republicans treat Jackson and I literally can’t. It’s unfathomable to me.

My god. The Heritage Foundation, which mercilessly attacked transgender kids in order to protect the "integrity of women's sports," is now attacking the legal basis for women's sports. The transgender student decision is barely 2 weeks old.
