I've heard often over the past 2yrs, "Hipkins/Labour is waiting until closer to the election to engage more on the issues and push back against National/Luxon." Well... here we are, 2 months until the election. Hipkins continues to be the invisible man who has nothing to say and stands for nothing.

utterly demoralising time to work in tech. Spend years developing a technically excellent and dependable product, and your boardroom is just guys saying “my nephew could build this in 15min with ChatGPT, why aren’t you DUMBASSES more like my nephew“

The market value of cloud accounting software company Xero is under pressure as investors question the viability of software companies in general as AI agents become more sophisticated.
Despite steady growth in customer numbers, Xero's share price has seen a steady decline since it was knocked off its peak of A$196.52 in late June 2025.
Xero's share price fell more than a third from the start of the year with its latest ASX traded price around A$70.

I know this is not the biggest issue of our week, but I think it is so grim how we are watching Ariana Grande's slow motion death by eating disorder and fans are like "yaassss queen Ari." We lived through Amy Winehouse. Some of us through Karen Carpenter. But that wasn't in the social media age.

There is no story where the violent, masked goons enforcing cruel laws are the good guys. They are the faceless grunts, the drones, the dregs and nothing else. They need to be reminded of this constantly.

Very bummed that I was napping and missed the Green Party knocking on our door to check in on us so I could've given them positive feedback. Now all I have left to look forward to is reaming out National & Labour when they show up. (I don't know if a NZF or Act candidate would dare doorknock here)

Broke my lifetime 5K personal record by over a minute, on a route where my previous record was almost 4m slower. There have been so many difficult parts of life these past few years, y'all. So many months I couldn't run or swim or do anything. It feels so good to achieve something that's all mine.

When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to publish anything by them at all, and “we need them for intellectual diversity.”

It’s very telling that opening your publication to MAGA “thought” requires a massive downgrade in quality control.

Achievement *almost* unlocked this morning: when I got to the car to go to the pool it was 1C! I've still never been outside for freezing temperatures in Wellington in almost a decade of living here. Not that I miss them, but I want to be able to say "I went swimming even though it was freezing" 🤣

Dropped in on a stream from a person I really respect today and not only did he say SO MANY incredibly kind things about me with no prompting, he also used they/them to refer to me the entire time. I'm totally fine with they/he, but to have a colleague SEE ME in both of those ways made me emotional

Broke my 500m PR again, for the third day in a row and the sixth swim in a row. Clearly I've resolved some kind of major blocker to be shedding time this quickly over the course of only two weeks. I know I'm going to hit a plateau soon and be stuck there for a long time, but this feels SO GOOD.
