"the time is the present, the place is Ancient Greece." she/her, UChicago Classics PhD candidate, rhapsode in the most literal sense. interests include silence, stripping, and stuff on the ancient stage 🌈✡️🏺🎭

the day is rapidly approaching when I will have to face my fears and write this section about Alcestis. thankfully I can delay that day indefinitely by telling myself that first I have to read everything ever written about Alcestis.

Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley

I like the part of the Odyssey at the Phaeacian court where Homer has Odysseus turn to the camera and say: "Now, we've all been having a lot of fun here today, but let's remember who the REAL heroes are---the hardworking bards and harpers in your own neighborhood. Remember to leave a tip, kids."

had students pick a historical Roman to do an optional Latin composition assignment about for extra credit, and I will clearly be getting many more submissions about Caesar than about women. probably should've seen that coming.
