Editorial board: "Mr. Ford insists this is a common-sense approach to tackling congestion. But a possible tell that this is more about culture-war politics is that he is making no effort to remove parking spaces, which take up more room than bicycle lanes." #BikeTo #OnPoli #ToPoli

This "Cliff's Notes" approach to scholarship degrades everything it touches. It doesn't just "oversimplify" scholarship—it *misrepresents* it. It filters the original contributions of scientists through an algorithm that files off all the *particularity* of a work—what's left isn't science anymore.
LLMs obscure the very world science seeks to illuminate. They have no place in our knowledge work practices. Anyone who insists they are the "future" of scientific papers is either a charlatan, an ignoramus, or a saboteur, and should be treated with the same contempt they show to scholarship.
I could cry, seeing an actual health department finally say things like this. Borderline considering a tattoo.

The fallacy that University leaders pushing AI are falling into is thinking that the point of undergraduate research is to find things out. It isn't. What students find out is typically already generally known. The point of undergraduate research is to learn how to find things out.

AI advocates say we have no right to stop innovation in the free market. Hogwash. We don’t allow corporations to come up with new nuclear weapons or varieties of cocaine or biological pathogens. We protect the public from certain kinds of innovation. We need guardrails on AI before it’s too late.
Can we make a global agreement that after Trump is gone, we delete his name from everything on the planet? Like a full purge?
“You need to integrate AI because while it will degrade your abilities and make your job less interesting and more shitty, at least you will retain employment” is not the sell AI proponents think it is.
The international chess Federation banned trans women from playing women's chess. CHESS. It's not about fairness. The fairness argument is intended to radicalize people into more violent forms of transphobia.
That rock skipping, yes tossing stones across a pond or river, is a gender segregated sport, should tell you something about how gendered sports are not about fairness of physical ability, and is instead about the male ego

This story is incredible. Haaretz is reporting not only that UAE President warned Netanyahu a week and a half before Oct 7 that a major Hamas attack was coming, but that he did so at the instance of SINWAR. www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...
Netanyahu got an explicit warning before Oct. 7. He didn't brief security chiefs
In September '23, UAE President bin Zayed called Netanyahu to deliver a harsh warning. Netanyahu did nothing. An extensive investigation, conducted for a new book, reveals the PM's failures surroundin...

Jean Chrétien: "It looks like they don't know what to do. When your big thing is to change the name of a lake, it's because you're running out of arguments. It is a very weak gesture, to be cheap and nasty. Lake Ontario is not suffering. It's a lake." #cdnpoli
New investigation from me. The 23 websites are designed to influence the answers that AI chatbots give to voters in Alberta, targeting farmers, young people, veterans, mothers and oil industry workers. www.nationalobserver.com/2026/09/04/i...
A US-linked network of fake websites is promoting Alberta separatism to AI chatbots
The websites present crude, AI-generated slop disguised as the voice of real Albertans. But they're made in Florida — and they're not even targeting Albertans directly.

Last week, my local store had dozens of cases of US green grapes marked down & stacked high right inside the door on Monday morning... By Friday afternoon, the markdown had grown but the mountain of cases hadn't shrunk... Pissed us off for the last time... True North Strong & Free! 😎🇨🇦🍁✊
I meant to post about this on Saturday when I went out shopping at the grocery store, many US boxed goods were marked down by half 🤣 people are not buying them, they can’t even sell them on sale, I was shocked at how much was reduced in store, I just bought all Canadian.
"Daddy said growing up in the coal mines one year for Xmas he got a toothbrush, the next year he got a bike, times were so unpredictable! I heard that story for years, finally relayed it to my grandma. She said, 'Tell your dad he got his bike the year we got the goddamn union.'"
In July 2019, the Doug Ford government cancelled 758 early-stage renewable energy projects. “All of a sudden, you wake up and there are 100 windmills in the backyard. That was absolutely ridiculous,” he said. Ridiculous?
#Denmark built so much wind that some blustery hours the turbines out-produce what the whole country is using. When that happens, the extra power doesn’t sit idle. It moves through Denmark’s links into the wider European network and heads to neighbors like Germany, Norway, Sweden. #ActOnClimate

Vaccine conspiracism is overwhelmingly clustered among the religious, white and affluent. It’s a function of conservative ideology and bad faith media. Being nicer to MAHA types will not ‘bring them into the fold,’ it will only increase their sense of entitlement.
Just as “no white after Labour Day” is antiquated, so is the idea that #publicjoy ends with summer. Find a tree-filled walking route & watch the leaves turn. Get an art gallery membership. Scan your local library’s special events. Wear vibrant sweaters. Schedule walks with friends. Stay outside.
