all of your opinions on The Odyssey are terrible. all of them. it’s kind of impressive. if you were all just guessing, i’d expect at least -some- good ideas. but no! tedium all the way down.

That's because "firefighter" is a specific job title with specific pay and benefits. By classifying them as Resource Technicians, the province can pay them less than they'd pay a municipal firefighter. They've been fighting for years to be reclassed as firefighters with no progress.

The next time you hear a government spokesperson thank "all the brave firefighters fighting the wildfires in northern Ontario", here's a little fact to tuck in your back pocket: By the Ontario government's own doing, they are not, in fact, "Firefighters", they are "Resource Technicians".
