i think a lot of well-meaning people fall into a rhetorical trap where they take the bait and argue about male vs. female performance in sports rather than arguing for the value and dignity of women’s athletics generally. don’t let yourself be dragged into a bad faith framing.

I really enjoyed the Odyssey. I thought it was definitely a movie of our time but only occasionally veered into the didactic. I also think people may have been expecting too much from what is at its core a big-budget action movie.

The only Discourse™️ around that review of The Odyssey that I’m interested in is the part about the sea people.
This is why I like the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice more than the 1995 miniseries (which was ITSELF not 100% faithful) and will fight people about it

Before Emily Wilson's translation came out, the Odyssey was something that sold infrequently to two kinds of people: students being forced to read it and nerds. It was not everyday reading material for a wide swath of customers. Wilson 100% brought new life and new readers to the text.
Going back and listening to some lingthusiasm, and now I know the term for bilingualism/Spanglish in the RGV!!
