First time in Netherlands 🇳🇱! Really like a lot of things about trains here, don’t like how people write phone numbers though it’s mad
MaterialX v1.39.5 is released! This release of MaterialX has the largest set of contributors in the history of our project, and includes support for the Slang shading language, 2D and 3D flake nodes, improvements to the MaterialX Graph Editor, and much more. github.com/AcademySoftw...
[Eng]In next few months, August or September I want to make next Warsaw Houdini User Group event! Let me know if you like to make talk! Can be about games, film, advert, tech or else. Don’t have to be 100% about Houdini just related in some way. Contact me here or at pbernaciak@proton.me
The fantastic GDC 2024 talk by Vesa Paakkanen about OpenUSD workflows at Remedy is now free to see on the GDC vault: gdcvault.com/play/1034201... It goes into detail of OpenUSD workflows in their 3D editor, Northlight, for things such as variants, edit targeting, schemas, overrides, and more.
Building Game Worlds with OpenUSD
The complexity and size of the game worlds is ever-increasing and tools need to meet that demand. At Remedy, we have been working on new tools and tech stack to allow us to build worlds faster and wit...

Interested in how Geometry Nodes work in Blender? In this blog I walk through the process of making a 3D node-based renderer from scratch using #WebGPU and Typescript. whoisryosuke.com/blog/2026/we...
WebGPU Node Graph - Ryosuke
In this blog I’ll break down the process of writing a node based renderer for WebGPU, what the architecture looks like, and how it practically works.

The MOPs tool for orienting curves using parallel transport is eight years old now, and mostly made obsolete by Houdini's native tool for it, but I wanted to revisit our old implementation and improve it a bit anyways. I documented how it works here: www.toadstorm.com/blog/?p=1168

Big headline, luckily not as scary as it looks, but an important lesson... The FBI extracted Signal messages from a defendant's iPhone even after the app was deleted. Here's what actually happened and what to do 🧵
My erosion filter is out! Video, blog post, and shader source. It emulates erosion without simulation, so it's fast, GPU friendly, and trivial to generate in chunks. Explainer video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4V2... Companion blog post: blog.runevision.com/2026/03/fast... #ProcGen #vfx #GameDev
Wowowow epic talk by @kubekhrm.bsky.social about building liquid glass with SVG and CSS #ReactParis Check out his post about it! kube.io/blog/liquid-... And a library coming soon 🎉
Matt Milstead from Mograph.com did a little interview with me yesterday where we talked about Houdini, MOPs, and motion graphics in general. Full video is online here: www.youtube.com/live/MsyvhOR...

Many programmers consider Vulkan to be overly complex–maybe not even worth engaging with as an #indiedev. It’s easy to see why people feel this way. If this is how you Vulkan, or modern graphics APIs in general, the goal of this talk is to change your mind. gamesbymason.com/blog/2026/vu...
👀 It's Not About the API - Fast, Flexible, and Simple Rendering in Vulkan
What if Vulkan isn't as complex as you thought? This talk walks you through a fast, flexible, and simple appraoch to writing efficient graphics engines in Vulkan.

make me wanna try add this to Houdini 🤔 if line remove is in nodenetworkutils it might be possible
dont really know what this feature is called in blender but i definitely want it to be in material maker
My MOPs course on Houdini.School is now free! If you want a start to finish course on how (almost) everything works, plus the math background, you can watch it all here: www.houdini.school/courses/mops...
MOPs: Motion Operators for Houdini
This course provides an overview of the MOPs workflow and how it integrates with the rest of Houdini, shows concrete examples of how MOPs can be used in both motion graphics and visual effects workflo...

flashback to me pointing out the ultimate irony of visual effects getting so good that our successes are used as evidence that "CGI sucks"
unicode braille characters are 2x4 rectangles of dots where you can arbitrarily set any of the dots. That's 8x the pixels you normally get in the terminal! anyway here's a proof of concept terminal SVG renderer using unicode braille:
Something cool I learn recently while working on some USD related stuff. GfMatrix4d stores it's vals as 4d array in C++ but one of methods allows to get flat array but this method is not exposed in Python. Turns out binding use buffer protocol which allows peculiar things. #python #vfx #techart #usd

Me before Holiday break: Finally I can take some break from pipeline stuff and do some art! Also me: Debugging why `zsh` doesn't properly launch rez context... (it's not because of `oh-my-zsh` or `oh-my-posh`)
Merry Christmas, Graphite community! You have waited patiently and it is finally here: the Graphite native desktop app is yours to download on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This limited public release candidate build (RC1) is available to download in our Discord (join via the link on the website).

This and FF8 for me :)
🌶️ Hot take: ML-based graphics makes some graphics researchers unhappy for the same reason diffusion models make artists unhappy. Both automate the interesting and beautiful parts of the work and both deskill the worker. Both result in questionable quality and both are being adopted regardless.
The best quote I’ve heard about AI was a half-joke by a coworker: “is there anything that classical techniques can do that AI can’t pretend to do better?” Sometimes pretending is good enough and sometimes it’s really not! That seems largely lost in the pro/anti AI discourse.
@nogodsnomayors.com in latest episode on LaToya Cantrell you forgot one place that have mixed common and Napoleonic law. Quebec is provinces level is Napoleonic and on federal is common. Hope that department of corrections will be on that 😅
