Women are made to feel like conspiracy theorists if we point out that a lot of men quick to defend rapists sound like rapists themselves. But the research is clear: rapists travel in packs. And that means that a lot of the time, the friend of the rapist is also a rapist.
Zinzi Clemmons joins us here tomorrow! We love this interview with her and @lesbrains.bsky.social for @literaryhub.bsky.social. Event details in the thread. lithub.com/grief-rage-a...

“It’s one of the only things that gets people like me out of bed: the knowledge that one day your enemies will be facedown in the pile of shit they’ve created. It will happen, and when it does, I will laugh, either here or in heaven.” Brilliant stuff with Zinzi Clemmons and @lesbrains.bsky.social.

Deepfakes were normalized through the violent sexualization of women, but we’re always a stepping stone on the way to other forms of exploitation.
A network of fake academic journals masquerading as legitimate publications has published more than a hundred AI-generated papers in recent months, in some cases using the names of real professors at top universities without their knowledge.
Well, it’s tomorrow, anyway. And my wish is that you buy my books, share that you’ve read them with people you know, let me know if you’ve taught them or been in classes where they were taught…I used to receive selfies of women in bathtubs reading my books and I’m not asking for that but you do you.
"The United Nations estimates that 50,000 women & girls were killed by intimate partners or family members in 2024, which breaks down to about 1 every 10 minutes..., so I know that prioritizing men's hurt feelings over our use of the term, "patriarchy" will only result in more [of our] deaths..."💔💔💔

Psychopathy, indeed, which is no longer in technicality considered mental illness. He is not mentally ill & I'll block anyone who insists otherwise.
he has the exact types of mental illness that our racist, sexist capitalist society worships in a wealthy, white businessman
“Society would be better off…if more women were willing to engage in justified violence against men, and fewer men were willing to engage in unjustified violence against women. To that end, women's justified violence against men should be encouraged, protected, and publicized.” -Mary Anne Franks
One of the most powerful things that women can do to keep one another safe is gossip about men who rape/abuse. That's how we tell each other who is safe to be in relationship with and who is dangerous. Chisme can be powerful community care.
A lot of survivors will wind up in the court system regardless of whether they report because perpetrators use litigation abuse now more than ever. Defamation lawsuits and custody disputes are completely legal ways perps torture and abuse their victims even more, and the court enables it.
This is, by the way, a part of how all men benefit from rape culture. As long as a Weinstein exists, their everyday misogyny and abuse of women will be dismissed as “not that bad.” Even though all of it contributes to gender inequality and creates a society that is hostile to women.
This is your reminder to look out for the Weinstein Effect. Which is when the extreme horrors committed by men become the new bar for immorality. Anything “less than a Weinstein” is now tolerated, even if everyone agrees a man was violent or exploitative. Don’t let abuses of power become the norm.
Folks would be surprised to learn that often I hear accounts from witnesses *first*, and it’s the victim herself who isn’t willing to come forward because it’s a very, very painful process. That may persist for YEARS of leads. Again: Reporters have no story until we get consent to tell one.
Anyone who has ever reported a story about sexual abuse knows it’s way worse than what’s actually written. Because what’s written is just what is unimpeachable. I won’t be surprised if there isn’t a lot more and not just about Sawell.

I don't know if the public is fully aware of the totally unhinged way that DHS interacts/corresponds with reporters--reporters who are engaging in basic functions of their job by reaching out for comment/clarification. These exchanges don't always make it into reporting.
The revelations regarding César Chávez’s abuse of girls and women has sparked a Chicane #Metoo.

An estimated 26% of U.S. farmworkers are women, and they face disproportionate risk of sexual harassment and assault in their workplaces. In an industry where their income, housing or immigration status may depend on supervisors who perpetuate sexual violence, reporting abuse can seem like a trap.
Dolores Huerta feared speaking about her abuse for years. The farmworkers she advocates for understand.
They grapple with a system where their income, housing or immigration status may depend entirely on supervisors who perpetuate sexual violence without oversight.

The only thing that I want to learn during a sexual harassment prevention training workshop is how many abusers have been fired by the org. If they don’t fire people, then they’re not serious.
Political leaders almost never bring up sexual violence in good faith. They reject the political interventions that would reduce violence and instead objectify victims to convince voters to accept state actions we would reject otherwise—like censorship, discrimination, and war.
The thing about the whole “social media addiction” campaign from Heritage and all the other far right fundamentalist groups, is that they’re openly bragging about how they’ll use these “kids online safety” legal precedents/laws to censor LGBTQ ppl off the internet
