Teacher of A Level maths and further maths at a sixth form college in northwest London. #edusky 🎓 Love reading, running, hiking and summers in the campervan.

Does anyone teach OCR #ALevelmaths and have any insight into what topics from pure would be good to revise for papers 2 and 3? I teach Edexcel, but I’m helping a friend’s daughter do some final prep for her OCR papers. Thanks!

Does anyone else do Edexcel #ALevelMaths for FM? I got a negative mass on Q9 CP1 which threw me until I realised we weren’t being asked to evaluate that variable…but surely that’s confusing? Some of my students did the same as me and spent ages rechecking the question.

Yesterday in #ALevelMaths we had lots of fun bouncing balls - calculating the coefficient of restitution and then using it to estimate the height of the room. Organised chaos! An activity picked up from the AMSP / MEI further mech course.

❤️ Love this ❤️ @mathforge.org has done what I’ve never been organised enough to do myself, and catalogued every #geometrypuzzle I’ve ever posted on social media. It looks amazing!

Sunday night seems the right time to post a gallery of (I hope!) every one of Catriona's geometry puzzles. notes.mathforge.org/notes/publis... Give it a moment to load ... there's a *lot* of them! #GeometryPuzzles #UKMathsChat #mathsky

Spent a slightly painful 15 minutes discussing Q2 with Y12 today. The problem wasn’t with spotting the patterns, but trying to formulate that into full sentences. If you teach #ALevelMaths, I’d be interested to know how your students get on with similar “describe and explain” tasks. #MathsToday

Question 1 has lots of parts which ask students to add, subtract or multiply polynomials from a box on the left. Question 2 says: Write down the degree of each of the polynomials in the box, and also of each of your answers to Q1. What general rules can you derive? Can you explain why these rules work?
Can you find any special cases that are exceptions to the general rules?
