I do not object that the model is not sufficiently conscious, I object that the structure of generative AI can only produce statistically likely approximations of real people's art See the papers on how, given a description of an image in the training set, the algo will reproduce that exact image

If yes, you have to agree that personhood isn't sufficient for the right to free expression. If no, then the use of copyrighted art to train an AI can't be wrong in principle. You can only object that the model is not sufficiently conscious or not sufficiently a person.

What boils my piss about the "originality" of harry potter is that as a series it gives not one shit about actual mythology from England or anywhere in Britain. Centaurs aren't British. The fuck is a Veela. Fucking Magus Bride cares so much more about your homeland's mythology and it's Japanese
