I worry that most cynical among us, hopped up on 30 years of law and order rhetoric, will say "this is the system working: he didn't do anything wrong and now he's free." As if the terror and wide-scale publicity of an arrest and federal prosecution is not a horrible punishment in and of itself.

The Justice Department is admitting that a $14 million renovation on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, was flawed, and is dropping the criminal case against a former Olympian that accused him of damaging the pool, according to a new court filing. https://cnn.it/3RJJnwj

Matt Walsh complains that Nolan brought his obsession with nonlinear story telling to the Odyssey, undercutting the original's narrative. The defenders of western civilisation, folks.

Matt Walsh tweets: Nolan's obsessions with the non-linear storytelling gimmick really hurts this film. It jumps around so much, and spends so little time on any one particular moment or scene, that you never really feel like Odysseus is on an epic journey spanning many years. When he makes it home, you never feel like he's been gone for 20 years. The film does not capture the grandeur and scope of the original epic. That's why it feels rushed and too long simultaneously. The movie comes off like a rough draft. Nolan was searching for the actual story but never quite found it.

As we await whatever fresh hell Trump's speech tonight will unleash, it’s important to step back and recognize the broader strategy characterizing much of Trump 2.0. I suspect the same strategy will be deployed in the run-up to the 2026 elections. The template is 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁.

Here's a slightly longer version, which I think captures much of what has happened over the past 1.5 years. And I expect this is the playbook for the 2026 elections: Begin by announcing extreme "election integrity" measures and ultimately retreat to a position that seems moderate only by comparison.

Obama’s Harsh New Takedown of Trump Points to a World After MAGA

The forty-fourth president’s library dedication speech was a powerful explication of liberal patriotism—and a much-needed repudiation of the Trump-Vance fascist variant.

"Trumpism is a betrayal of the very things we are meant to be celebrating...[let's] reject Trump and his intellectual lackeys in their nativism...and instead join with Lincoln in honoring the Declaration’s promise." Good @lkatfield.bsky.social on 250th and MAGA: www.thebulwark.com/p/how-trumpi...
