I worry that most cynical among us, hopped up on 30 years of law and order rhetoric, will say "this is the system working: he didn't do anything wrong and now he's free." As if the terror and wide-scale publicity of an arrest and federal prosecution is not a horrible punishment in and of itself.
The Justice Department is admitting that a $14 million renovation on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, was flawed, and is dropping the criminal case against a former Olympian that accused him of damaging the pool, according to a new court filing. https://cnn.it/3RJJnwj
“Trump has rejected disaster aid for Democratic-run states at the highest rate in the 47-year history of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.” Right now people in blue states are basically paying federal taxes as if they’re colonized territories of red states. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...

Matt Walsh complains that Nolan brought his obsession with nonlinear story telling to the Odyssey, undercutting the original's narrative. The defenders of western civilisation, folks.
I would not at all be surprised if Ossoff shot up these rankings if he runs and once people start paying attention. Right now this mostly looks like a poll of name recognition.

Claremont has direct proximity to and influence over the government right now. The guy who led the mass deportation campaign for all of 2025 believes this shit. So yeah, this is fringe, racist, batshit nuttery. It's also a serious threat. www.thebulwark.com/p/whos-to-bl...
Speaking of Claremont crank Glenn Ellmers, he was discussed at some length in this classic Bulwark essay from five years ago, written by @lkatfield.bsky.social: www.thebulwark.com/p/what-the-h...
What the Hell Happened to the Claremont Institute?
How the once-distinguished conservative think tank plunged into Trumpism, illiberalism, and lying about the election.

As we await whatever fresh hell Trump's speech tonight will unleash, it’s important to step back and recognize the broader strategy characterizing much of Trump 2.0. I suspect the same strategy will be deployed in the run-up to the 2026 elections. The template is 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁.
Here's a slightly longer version, which I think captures much of what has happened over the past 1.5 years. And I expect this is the playbook for the 2026 elections: Begin by announcing extreme "election integrity" measures and ultimately retreat to a position that seems moderate only by comparison.
Unfortunately, a stunned Paris is how they all got into this whole mess to begin with
‘The Odyssey’ women Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Charlize Theron stun in Paris.

On this 250th Independence Day, join with Abraham Lincoln in honoring the Declaration’s promise—our founding commitment to human equality and freedom—that, in all its complexity, defines who we are as Americans. ICYMI @lkatfield.bsky.social:

icymi @gregsargent.bsky.social on the creedal nation, including some Lincoln: “In Lincoln’s speech, dedication to the proposition that all people are created equal is a substitute for ties of heritage and blood.“ Obama adds “It’s no less strong for being so.“ newrepublic.com/article/2121...

The forty-fourth president’s library dedication speech was a powerful explication of liberal patriotism—and a much-needed repudiation of the Trump-Vance fascist variant.

It is seriously alarming how many of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful people are just screamingly mentally unwell in deeply toxic, dangerous ways.
"The Pope is the puppet of the Chinese authoritatian government" is a take you would make if you made billions by drinking paint.
"Trumpism is a betrayal of the very things we are meant to be celebrating...[let's] reject Trump and his intellectual lackeys in their nativism...and instead join with Lincoln in honoring the Declaration’s promise." Good @lkatfield.bsky.social on 250th and MAGA: www.thebulwark.com/p/how-trumpi...

The right-wing attack on birthright citizenship is not just about birthright citizenship itself. As MAGA’s reaction to the Supreme Court ruling proves, it is part of their opposition to a broader ideal, that “All men are created equal.” www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Note to people asking "why not Thielism"—Musk lost twice Thiel's net worth just today.
The good news is Elon lost $55 billion today. The bad news is he still has $1,067,209,900,000.
