When I first wrote about the First Amendment and the White House press pool for the textbook about a decade ago, it was only a few grafs. Now it's a much longer passage. Here's an excerpt with my comments about the CNN/Politico/MS Now ban and lawsuit. medialawprof.medium.com/press-pools-...

Press Pools, the First Amendment, and “rogue, mooning journalists”

For our textbook “The Law of Public Communication” — 14th edition coming in 2027! — I’ve authored the “Access to Information” chapter for…

Every time I teach Media Literacy, I ask students what they think are the top 3-5 news stories since 2000. I usually have the top 10 but this year it is only 9 because of so little consensus. And yes, for 9, they wrote "prez elections," not any in particular, so I wasn't forcing it to be a catchall.

Navy Failed to Protect Pilots From Brain Injury, House Report Says

UW-Madison professor engages in multiple sexual relationships with students, disparages another over their sexual orientation and appearance, creates hostile environment, and department leadership covers it all up. And in true “pass the trash” fashion, moves on to ASU once forced to resign.

When political parties use AI images they need to label them, according to the EU AI Act. More fundamentally they should ask themselves if they really want to contribute to the authenticity blur. I comment on a recent case in Danish politics here @ddc-sdu.bsky.social www.dr.dk/nyheder/poli...

When I was a kid visiting my dad's family in Mississippi, they asked who was favorite singer was. I said, "Polly Darton," and they all laughed while I had no clue of my little slip up. Rest in power and all the good you did for this world, Dolly.

NYT lede: "Giorgia Meloni, daughter of the extreme right..." There's a lot in this article but I am just pausing hard on the "daughter" part. She's not the mother of it, as in wasn't the architect, but what does it mean to be the daughter of it? www.nytimes.com/2026/08/21/w...

Giorgia Meloni Cuts the Hard Right a Path to Power

@kera.org loss $2.8M in fed funding, had a huge surge in public donations after fed cuts and ended the 25-26FY with operating budget surplus. They are operating as though fed funding will not come back and are using the surplus to ride out potential ebbs in public donations in years 2/3 post cuts.
