on top of the emails showing Epstein directly supporting individual predatory professors, a professor who planned a "campus rape and consent" conference with the intention of undermining mid-2010s attempts at progress around Title IX requested funding for it from Epstein

Former UT professor sought money from Jeffrey Epstein Foundation

He sought $10K-$20K to cover the costs of a campus rape policy event.

the past week reminds me of this @lopatto.bsky.social piece about *just how much* of the past several years has been shaped by powerful men dismantling the court of public opinion, because it was the last court they might face any consequences in

I'm sick of hearing tech people's incompetence framed as technological genius. I'm gonna start throwing vinegar in a clorox bottle and say my bleach went rogue. I didn't make mustard gas, my bleach just gained sentience.

Spoke with postal union leaders. There is a legit fear that Trump’s mail-ballot scheme is going to insert postal workers into nasty politics and make them subject to threats and harassment, à la election workers. And also hurt USPS’ strong reputation w/ Americans www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

Union leaders say the screening system Trump ordered could insert postal workers into nasty partisan politics and even lead to harassment.

Philosophers often bring up the "principle of charity": a willingness to assume good faith in an interlocutor and treat them accordingly. It's good to do in many circumstances. But it is worth formulating a principle of not being a fucking mark. If not during the rise of fascism, then when? 12/

Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/

TMZ stays evil and unethical. The article says AOC and her ex split up YEARS ago, but they’re framing it as something that just happened to capitalize on the sexist outrage over her freezing her eggs. They know the vast majority of people won’t read the article.

A screenshot of a TMZ post that says “💔 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez splits from fiancé Riley Roberts.” There are side-by-side photos of them with a crack graphic down the middle. The article reveals they actually split up two years ago.

Ifollowed sports science and related discourse for decades and there's always been an undercurrent of race science in there, but usually at something of a whisper. over the last few years there seems to be a resurgence of the very overt stuff. this post today from a fairly famous fitness influencer

screenshot post from Menno Henselmans' FB page. text says:

"There's a common intuition that black-African individuals are genetically gifted for sports and muscularity. A new preprinted study's researchers walked into this political minefield to find the truth. 40 Untrained men of African or European ancestry, based on genetic testing, completed 9 weeks of supervised resistance training."

before Ruiz's killing last month, Madison had been rocked by 2 police killings during what were likely mental health crises: of Paul Heenan, a white 30-year-old, in 2012, and of 19-year-old Tony Robinson, who was biracial and shot dead by police in 2015 on the same Madison street as Ruiz.

in July, bystander video of another police killing in broad daylight went viral. 6 years since 2020's movement to defund and abolish police, killings have risen—now including Corey Ruiz. organizers place his killing in a long backlash to it, which began immediately: police budgets went up by 2022

Big news out of #WPBL postgame tonight: Queens manager Eric Young Jr. told me his starting pitcher Friday night will be Ayami Sato. So the matchup between Sato and the firepower of Kelsie Whitmore's San Francisco Firebells is almost here.

Air travel has gotten significantly better. There is NO SMOKING on flights. I remember flying as a kid with people smoking in the same row. It was terrible. People complain about delays, but there are considerably more flights now & not a lot more runways. Lower prices have democratized flying.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

So much loser behavior in Dodgers-Skubal discourse. Running to the owners for a new CBA like loser parents pressuring youth league when their kid loses. Be upset with them for Chavez Ravine, the way they ignore SA/DV, or their owner investing in prisons. Otherwise it's just soft.

I’m hearing from multiple sources that they believe there is indeed a surge happening in NYC. This incident, in Inwood, happened amid multiple days of ICE in the area, as activity was also reported in Corona (Queens), Bensonhurst, Bushwick (Brooklyn), & Port Richmond (Staten Island) this past week.

Masked ICE thug just casually shooting pepper spray at a few old ladies standing peacefully on the sidewalk filming them in uptown Manhattan today. Just because these monsters are quieter now doesn’t mean they’re not still out there violating people.
