good reminder that before the counting is over, election results don’t tighten. at no point is anyone trailing. nobody moves closer. they’re just tabulating the polls. it’s a fixed number that just isn’t done yet. to say otherwise is bad journalism but even worse math.
Just leaving this here: "The social media hell-scape I wandered onto was a gallery of proof that horrible men get away with everything." nekocase.substack.com/p/in-what-fu...
IN WHAT FUCKING UNIVERSE?
This last week I was just cookin’ along minding my business when I suddenly found myself quite depressed.

What sort of delusional BS is this??? www.mediaite.com/media/news/c...
I'm just over here comparing maps of where my uncle's cabin is with the latest lake chelan fire news. looks like they are still at level 1 but not far from level 2. I don't like this 21st century reality.
Immigration news has been SO MUCH to keep track of as it's everywhere all at once, all the time. Collaboration with local cops, new rules for visas and green cards proposed regularly, so many lawsuits attempting to rein in the administration, courts and DHS stripping people of their legal status.
We added so many events to the Immigration timeline this round that our one-paragraph briefing turned into three. 1/9 unbreaking.org/blog/briefin...
What I hate about COVID downplayers is… you won okay. In the aftermath of humanity coming together to develop the most crucial vaccines of our lifetime & collectively sacrificing to save lives, we are now less safe, less vaccinated & less empathetic than ever. You won ok. Lay down your swords.
Our world gets weirder and weirder by the minute. I also fell into a little rabbit-hole of his political bio, which reads: “I aim to live like Davy, and love like Dolly. These are two of the most iconic figures of East Tennessee morals and compassion.” ballotpedia.org/Adam_Heimerm...

since this has now happened several times this week i feel the need to say that cis people trying to “well, actually” me (or any other trans person) on the fascist dissolution of our rights and the engines thereof just isn’t going to go well. if you feel challenged by something i said, sit with it
in portland someone spray painted penises around potholes, and they got filled pretty immediately www.oregonlive.com/portland/202...
A crude pothole graffiti tactic got Portland’s attention. Please don’t copy it, officials say
Nearby apartment dwellers had a bird's eye view of the graphic murals.

It's the frozen e. coli blueberries again: Publix has now recalled all lots of GreenWise Organic Frozen Whole Blueberries as well as Whole Mixed Berries.
This recall affects those who may have purchased the recalled fruit in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
@supremenothing.myatproto.social I am losing it with all these people in your mentions earnestly saying that someone holding a belief that has been disproven is apparently ok if they hold it sincerely.
I read about this stuff all day long and this one just made my brain explode.
New: An RGV mother deported to Mexico despite having DACA filed a lawsuit against the federal government after it notified her it would be terminating her DACA status because of “unauthorized travel” stemming from her deportation. apnews.com/article/daca...
Most rural areas have a ruling class. And they want cheap unfree workers & to pass their fiefdoms on tax-free forever. It ain't rocket science. The fact that we're scared to talk about THAT, ime, is what's costing us a lot of rural voters!
This reminds me of how Eric from Cairo Records takes all the sax solos out of the soul songs on his comps because he hates the sax so much.
Incredible stuff from Avalon Nursery.
So our farm flooded last week and we didn't get our CSA. I have gone a week and a half without fresh greens (other than herbs) and this romaine I'm eating right now might be the best lettuce I've ever had. I missed it so much.
I liked Nolan‘s Odyssey and found aspects problematic. I liked Emily Wilson’s takedown and found aspects problemaric. I liked Joyce Carole Oates’ takedown of Emily Wilson’s takedown of Nolan’s Odyssey and found aspects problematic. I liked (wake me when the next dagger is dropped thru the ceiling)
"Do you think James Joyce and Virginia Woolf would be wasting her time on social media getting into petty controversies?" ABSOLUTELY YES. ARE YOU KIDDING?
As of this week, hundreds of thousands of Haitians lost their legal status. Most have lost work permits as well. That's left many people unable to support themselves. Here is a verified link to a fundraiser supporting Haitians in Springfield. Please drop links to other fundraisers in the replies.

reminder for other folks in knox county: early voting ends on august 1! this is the primary for the fall but more importantly it is also the city/county general election.
Among the worst ideas floating around is that "the free market" will naturally achieve desirable results for society. No, it won't, not even in theory, much less in practice. Markets don't optimize "good for society" unless you make them.
Turns out that food companies were only checking their food because the government told them to, which is exactly why we need government regulations.
While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.

got a pallet of records delivered today and the delivery man was VERY excited to talk to me. he had just inherited someone's vinyl collection (and stereo) and while he's really into some of it he's not into all of it. he figured I could give him advice on how to asses what it's worth.
So, he has TOTALLY recovered from this but he has discovered that if he limps when he sees me that I am likely to give him treats. So he now walks up to me, totally normal, and then does one BIG exaggerated limp, stops, and smiles.
we returned from a matinee to find the elderly puppy had fallen in the hallway and couldn't get up on his own. I have no idea how long he'd been there. I guess we are now in the stage of he cannot be left home alone.
More about this horrible, horrible decision of ending TPS, from a Haitian perspective, here: globalvoices.org/2026/07/04/w...
What the ending of the U.S.’ Temporary Protection Status could mean for Haiti
“Haiti remains gripped by armed violence [...] and a profound humanitarian crisis [and] the Supreme Court has given a green light to treat hundreds of thousands of Haitian families as disposable.”
