Congratulations to @jakubegan.bsky.social, @brozlab.bsky.social et al. A nice reminder that lipid acyl chains are not just defining binding interactions. They tune membrane curvature and flexibility, adding an additional layer of regulation to protein activity and cellular signalling

PAPER ALERT! I am excited to share that our study describing the molecular mechanism of caspase-4 activation has just been published in Immunity. www.cell.com/immunity/ful... I would like to thank all the co-authors for their valuable contributions. Well done guys! Link for short summary below👇

Check out our new publication, a collaboration with Giovanni Luchetti and Vishva Dixit @ Genentech. We show that the E.coli effector NleL inhibits intestinal epithelial cell extrusion after #inflammasome activation via degrading the kinases ROCK1 and 2!! www.nature.com/articles/s41... Enteropathogenic bacteria evade ROCK-driven epithelial cell extrusion - Nature

The bacterial ubiquitin ligase NleL evades host defence mechanisms both by inhibiting pyroptosis and by preventing infected intestinal epithelial cells from being extruded into the lumen and expelled ...

Still wrapping my head around the fact that it’s finally out!! 🎉 From hypothesis in 2017 to data in 2020, it took 5 more years to fully prove the story. Long road for a lipid inhibitor, but worth it. Wonder how long a Nature paper takes… maybe I’ll find out soon! 😉 #ResearchLife
