Maybe the answer is just that I’m old and this is not for me, but why would I want to pay to subscribe to the exclusive streaming platform of one of the world’s largest media conglomerates to watch short form videos by amateurs I could just as easily watch on social media for free?

As part of the initiative, creators who opt in will receive access to official Disney assets, with their videos featured on both TikTok and Disney+.
I don’t doubt Emily Wilson knows more about The Odyssey than most people living - or heck - more than most people since Homer himself, but everything she’s written suggests to me that she does not understand the language of film at all. Just a baffling misreading to the point that it feels willful.
This is an astounding loss for the US if it comes to fruition. One of the biggest strategic losses the US has ever endured—perhaps biggest?—and all from a war the US chose to start for no reason, illegally.

This would close off the path outside Iranian waters the US encouraged ships to use during the MOU, then started bombing again to keep open.
Once again, the Founders anticipated the possibility of a tyrannical president. What they didn’t anticipate is a majority of the members of Congress choosing subservience—not that they’d all be good people, but most should have egos and ambition, enough to object if someone tried taking their power.

The problem that people like Moyn have is that Pax Americana (to the extent that existed) was the period of most rapid increase in democracy and prosperity worldwide. Did that have NOTHING to do with U.S. global power and influence plus institutions, rules, pacts, etc?
Putin, Xi, Iran, etc must love the way this clown car of incompetent cultists is burning every alliance and relationship the US has built over decades and centuries to the ground in such a short period of time with a toxic combination of arrogance and stupidity.

This maps onto a similar complaint with Oppenheimer and also Obsession. I think it’s worth asking why the director/writer made those choices. Is it because they don’t care about the victims? Or is it because they believe (rightly or wrongly) that the film is more impactful from the POV provided?

I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).
