THERE ARE FIGS AT TRADER JOE'S! THERE ARE FIGS AT TRADER JOE'S! If you know me, you know that one of my favorite days of the year is the day that the figs arrive at Trader Joe's!!!

Just looked up a word in the book I'm reading that I wasn't familiar with: "sith." Turns out I am actually VERY familiar with it...but I know it as "sidhe." The former is the Scottish Gaelic spelling; the latter is the Irish Gaelic spelling. Both are pronounced "shee." I freaking love language.
I have bad chronic dry-eye. Among other things to manage it, I use eye-drops ~every 3 hrs. Which is to say, I am Good at Eye-drops. But when they've been sitting in the sun (such as in my greenhouse of a study) and are super-warm, I can't FEEL them hit my eye, and it results in such a mess! o_O;;;;
You have to vote with your wallet, people. The same goes for books — if you are mostly buying books that are already mega bestsellers or by mega-bestselling authors, then you're sending a message. Seek out the weird indie shit so we get more of it.
WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME THIS WAS AN OPTION???
leaving my brain outside in a bucket full of moss and warm water
I know people are tired and overworked, but I feel like oftentimes they’re offloading a creative (and, on some level, rewarding) activity to free up time that they’ll ultimately spend scrolling on their phones—thereby further reducing their brains to mush. it’s a vicious cycle of meaninglessness
'but AI is the only way i can afford to make an event flyer' notebook paper. sharpie. here is my event. photograph with phone. post. be less stupid in the future
I am so excited to be attending my first-ever Worldcon, on a combination of in-person AND virtual panels! Will I see you there? I'll be the one with stars in my eyes and tangles in my hair <33 @laworldcon.bsky.social
Whenever I see one of those "movie you've watched more than x times HARD MODE: no Marvel, Star Wars, LotR," I'm always just like......I have never seen a single Marvel movie; I've only seen the original Star Wars and only once; I don't know if I can say I've seen LotR or not because I fell asleep...
The crucial bit of context here is that “val” in Swedish means both ‘whale’ and ‘election’.
The only taxidermied blue whale in the world, 1865 CE, now housed at the Natural History Museum in Sweden. The public was allowed to enter the whale up until a couple was found having sex inside it. Now the whale’s jaws are opened only for special occasions, such as Swedish election days.
I really feel like "chasm" ought to be spelled "chasym."
Fiction all goes in a rainbow, then poetry gets its own rainbow, then Shakespeare is alphabetical by title, then non-fiction is alphabetical by author.
Enough of the horrors and doom scrolling. Let's talk about something fun. How do you arrange your books?
Benjamin Alire Sáenz has passed away. It was fighting to keep his Aristotle and Dante in our curriculum that resulted in my leaving my teaching job---a fight I have never regretted. I heard him on a panel once: incredibly soft-spoken. Every other rowdy author on that staged hushed to hear him.
My kid works at a library and found this note sticking out of a book. Dear Scarlett's parents, good job raising a rockstar. 😁
Why 5 read THE BONE BRIDES? 5⃣ Grimm‑coded fairy tale logic. 4⃣ Portals to a world that magical & mythic 3⃣ Grief & depression portrayed insightfully, without sensationalism. 2⃣ A sapphic Orpheus‑coded quest. 1⃣ A story about becoming who you truly are, not who you think you must perform. #booksky
So, I know plenty of people eat whole wheat pasta vs regular for the fiber, but am I the only person who eats it because she strongly prefers the taste??
If the world bores you, look closer. There are unseen universes you might have missed. 🌿🤗

Goodness, I love sunfish so much. Ridiculous prehistoric-looking dorks.
for me to float on #art
Also, every single queer woman who's come up to me in tears after panels I've given about wlw rep in anime and told me how seen I've made her feel.
OK, we've had the talk about bullying and the discourse that's been bubbling today. Let's do something positive: What as your coolest, most favorite experience as an anime fan? Doesn't have to be anything special, just has to be something that you remember fondly.
Before I'd so much as gotten in the door at my first anime convention, a stranger tackle-hugged me while shouting the character I was cosplaying's name. The con no longer allows such consentless "glomping" (good!), but I will always cherish that first, welcoming hug to my weirdo self.

It’s nice to see everyone’s textual analysis of The Odyssey It’s almost like the humanities give you entertainment, feelings, pleasure, and fun/interesting stuff to talk about, as well as lenses into both past and current society

Did anyone else call those little cotton seedlings that dance through the air "faeries" when they were kids? There are currently dozens of them floating up and past my window, and yes, hello, I know you <33
Having a chocolate-chips-for-breakfast kind of morning.
Wahooo!! Poetry is a tiny piece of one soul speaking out to a tiny piece of another---and thus, is far from some stodgy dead thing. Poetry is for everyone, and it's wonderful to have that recognized <333
The poetry Hugo is a go! At least until 2029, as there's a policy of re-ratifying new categories three years later. Thank you to @hollylynwalrath.bsky.social, @bugthewriter.bsky.social, @therisingtithes.bsky.social, and everybody else who made this happen!
My 13 month-old loves playing with my flip-phone, which mostly involves opening and closing it and giving it the occasional lick. But yesterday he managed to call his dad at work, which, wow, good job picking whom to mouth-dial, kid.
