Two things about this: 1. It's interesting that all the controversy about AHRC centres on where it seeks to protect women 2. If "soft resistance" means males deliberately entering women's spaces despite being asked not to, that's cast-iron proof for why the protections in law are necessary

My near-term prediction is this will be met with soft resistance (and not always principled, or at least as much motivated by unwillingness to pay and sheer indifference) initially from British civil society, and the next round fight is a bunch of lawsuits from GCs to try and force compliance.

Soft resistance in this case would mean males deliberately entering female toilets and changing rooms despite being explicitly told not to. I would very, very strongly advise people not to do this, it will have tremendous negative consequences for everybody.

I don't understand why this is talked of as a "second chance". Everyone supports him after release having a second chance to be a decent citizen. But I think he's being gifted a first chance at a political career, being preferred over people of good character who will never have that chance.

This is just another classic case, of people not standing up for Jews when it actually matters. Politicians like Kemi and Zack love to pay lip service to how much they stand for Jews and are our allies. But then* won't stand by us and just say what needs to be said: A Nazi should not be standing.

Zack Polanski really is a fucking charlatan Joshua Bonehill-Paine was a neo-Nazi. He led a campaign of online harassment against Jewish public figures. It's absolutely OK to push Nazis out of public life. I'd argue it's also OK to push their enablers, too.

It was wishful thinking on the left, too. People were practically rubbing their thighs at the idea of Starmer being punished with a defeat to Reform. There was a strong moralising streak to the Reform mania, a kind of "see? This is what you get for <insert preferred transgression>!"

It’s long been clear that Reform is beatable – Farage’s terrible personal ratings, toxic brand, mass tactical voting against them. The narrative that victory for them is inevitable was based on superficial analysis + wishful thinking on the right.

I am really disappointed that after Burnham has announced with great fanfare several spending committments, that we hear this weekend it was actually unfunded and indiidual departments are now being told they must cut back on their other spending to fund it all. This is the wrong way. 1/2

I was educated in a system like that, & apart from a few immigrant outliers like me, you could have predicted which kids would end up in what stream by the time we were 10, based on nothing but the ethno-socio-economic status of their parents. It's shit.

Adults are an invention of Modernity, binary feminity of Enlightenment and humanism of Renaissance and Gothic. "adult human female" isnt really a coherent idea today, but it definitely couldnt exist back then. Learn some history. These remains pre-date every meaning by multiple thousand years.
