Is this post mostly about how I failed at leaving myself enough energy for something I really wanted to do? Yeah. But it's also about the people. Both the ones who were happy to see me for just a minute, and the ones that won't get to know me better because I just can't be present long enough.
The thing about being disabled is that sometimes it's just disappointing. Ableism is real, but a lot of things aren't the result of ableism. They're just laws of physics or natural limits of resources, including the ability to communicate or expend energy. It sucks. But it isn't anyone's fault.
Close to hitting our goal! Thank you all so much!!!! CashApp: $BriHullaby Venmo: BriHullaby PayPal: brianhullaby@gmail.com
This is unbelievably embarrassing, but my families financial situation is extremely dire. Our gas is shut off and some days we are barely eating. We really need some help. Anything will do. Even a RT. Thank you! CashApp: $BriHullaby Venmo: BriHullaby PayPal: BriHullaby

This is part of why I call business (and governance) culture in the US the Extrovert Industrial Complex
I know there is some joking to this but genuinely I feel that actual working positions need more "introverted pet bolt people" in both business and governance. The social politicking required to get your ideas accepted feels like it precludes a lot of very skilled, knowledgeable problem solvers.
I think the big problem is that lots of us genuinely care a lot about nuts and bolts, but we want to be alone in the room to work on our pet bolts, not having to actually, y’know, talk to people and shit.
genuinely giving a shit about the nuts and bolts of governance - really, seriously, trying to make it work properly - is the real mamdani superpower the charisma is of course a cheat code but it wouldn't be enough if he wasn't actually following through

Sat. Sept 19 in DMV DC- H St NE Fest w/ Blacc Print, UCB, Bina Campbell, Walker Redds Project, Tru Worshiperz Band, Peacemakers, Body of Evidence, Too Much Talent Band, Soul Searchers, Jogo Project, WestMob, District Kings, Pump Blenders 11am-7 pm; Bikini Kill @ Fillmore (riot grrls pioneers) 🧵
It would be so good if people organizing these events would talk with attendees about the need for them to attend school and library board meetings AND IMPORTANTLY for people to seek appointment or election to both these boards. Power-building and governance matter.

Don’t forget, this is how the Kennedy center dismantling started. The folks at your institution doing equity work might be the first targeted, but the institutions themselves are always the target. Hope folks have learned this now.

Finding Your Roots has an episode with Questlove and his ancestors were on that ship. There’s so much history in our family histories.
Watching a documentary about the last Slave ship and the museum they made in Mobile, AL. This is mind blowing.
read barracoon by zora neale hurston. it is the account of a man on that ship & the town they built. it is the very same town in that documentary & those people are his descendants. his enslavers & their descendants are the ones they're talking about in the film.

You guys are keeping it together right now??
How are y’all keeping yourselves together with everything going on right now?
You really just have to be scared and do shit anyway. That’s the only way you will ever grow.
I feel incredibly fortunate to come from people with oral traditions who use the sounds of words & parts of speech to convey meaning and function in communication. It's been a constant aid to my ability to read and understand texts, and I try to share it with students
Love it when public servants won’t entertain questions that distract from the actual important thing being talked about. Why should he care about whether or not people are angry in spite of the historical drop in violent crime when a toddler is in the hospital
Mayor Scott deserves his flowers just as much as Mamdani. He's doing a lot with less and cares heavily for the city but doesn't get the recognition.
This is the discourse I wanna see when I open this app

Like truly if you are considering a history of the American press or U.S. media and one framework isn’t about how often power aligned to try to undermine the media of radical abolitionists (and later anti-lynching crusaders and on and on through time) are you even doing history?
next week will be the 1-yr anniversary of hello sunshine being out and tbh it's done way better than they apparently expected it to by far and pretty damn good for a YA horror graphic novel in general especially given the zero marketing budget, but honestly? this email is all I wanted out of it
listen this email I got a couple weeks ago is how much I love schools and libraries okay
