fucking wild to see Andrew Callaghan popping up everywhere again as if nothing happened. I guess being a rapist really doesn’t hurt a guy’s ability to stay a famous and well compensated YouTube celebrity

Platforms really will build themselves up to be spaces built on the purest morality (especially if it means they can throw other creators under the bus in comparison), yet they still protect the same misogynists everyone else does.

Probably THE most persuasive tool we have as Video Essayists is using ourselves as the uncomfortable example The fact that in 10 years he never made a video about this "life-changing rehabilitation," a thing many young people NEED to learn about, in my mind makes his work cowardly & self-serving 💁

I'll also be brave and attack his art, how do you not now see a giant IM THE PROBLEM elephant-sized hole in his videos about Mouthwashing, or being Afraid of the Dark etc etc, how could you ever watch them the same again ?

trying my best to stay out of rape discourse because the past few years have already been very hard & it seems like 60% of people are cool with a world with a little rape in it but whoever this was invented “manic pixie rape girl in the lives of the men they helped improve” & that sucks. it sucks.

I don't mean to downplay sexual assault but l also have known a lot of good people who had to learn healthy boundaries by violating someone else's and never forgetting the experience

In better news, I wrote like seven pages of a script I hadn't had the steam for due to the horrors of real life and I finished an essay for a class. So anger works is all I'm saying.

Did you notice that when the woman youtuber was a confirmed plagiarist everyone was happy to end her career forever but when the man youtuber is a confirmed rapist we suddenly get dozens of posts about how "disheartening" it is that people don't believe in restorative justice

Also I'm sorry but ima really need y'all to stop putting men on pedastals for seemingly taking accountability. During the metoo movement when men were getting outed and would release a statement, they would also feign accountability by being self-pitying

Will never cease to amaze me how whenever a man is outed as a rapist, ppl immediately jump to asking how we can redeem him and men like him, rather than how can we take care of the victim. You know the person who was harmed and now most likely has PTSD?

The amount of people who sound like this right now about multiple situations has really proven to me people care more about a rapist's feelings than that of their victim, but as long as you couch this phrasing in pseudo progressive language nobody calls you on it www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016...

‘20 minutes of action’: father defends Stanford student son convicted of sexual assault

Court statement by father of Brock Turner adds to concern over ‘lenient’ six-month sentence he received for intent to rape an unconscious woman

I can't believe some people are taking the Jacob Geller situation as an excuse to present this as a debate over restorative justice when we literally only have the word of the rapist over whether enough work was done to even qualify for any kind of "restoration."

I’ve been trying to think of the words to say but I’m not quite sure what I even should say. I guess at this moment I’ll just make it clear that it’s normal and natural to feel hurt or betrayed when you find out someone you trusted and saw as safe is an abuser and I hate how this keeps happening

I also believe in restorative justice but I don't think that means you get to become a pillar of a community and garner an audience and an income that relies solely on everyone including yourself staying silent about your actions. In the VIDEO GAME SPHERE no less.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

survivors are also frequently encouraged to "speak out" and "start conversations" in order to "change the world" but we receive nothing but harrassment, suspicion, and hate for doing so. i grieve so often for the girl i was during MeToo who truly believed that things were soon to get better.

Feeling actually sick at the amount of people I admired turning out to be exactly the type to throw vulnerable people under the bus if it serves them. Just continues to show that no amount of "good work" someone does can excuse the harms done when there's zero accountability.
