Gotta say, I'm getting a lot of "I can't believe a women is speaking out of turn" vibes off the response to Emily Wilson not liking a movie very much

One of the most important issues of our time is that the future of humanity is presently being authored by people who have nothing but total contempt for humanity and seek the erasure of everything that gives being a human meaning. It’s not just annoying. It doesn’t just suck. It’s existential.

Sam Altman: cool use case of chatgpt work i heard last night:

connect your family calendars and explain your kids' interests.

every morning for the drive to school, have it make a podcast that talks about one kid's soccer game that afternoon, one kid's upcoming birthday, some news, etc.

i've never used AI to read, write, or research in any capacity because i enjoy reading, writing, and researching so i'd be sad if AI did it instead of me. also because AI is a plagiarism machine that's terrible for the planet. also because it's constantly incorrect and rots your brain. also because-

I truly feel for kids growing up now who will have to unlearn using AI, but if you've been writing for more than 2 years it is the easiest thing in the world to just Keep Doing The Thing You Did and ignore AI tools!! It makes me feel crazy that people act like this isn't the case!!!

it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun

i still just really feel like AI stuff is basically illegal. like I don't think a good faith interpretation of "fair use" entails vacuuming up everyone's intellectual property to build your chat bot. that sounds wrong to me

"ok emily wilson's film criticism isn't wrong but she's being pedantic and annoying" damn okay i already supported her perspective but now i'm supporting her character even more

also, i do find it funny how video essayists are stereotyped as "angry" all the time just because we write persuasive essays that include rhetorical arguments. 95% of the video essayists i've met are mild-mannered, considerate, very normal folks who just want to enthuse about their interests.
