The House overwhelmingly passed protections for the right to read! The next step is reconcilliation. We need to push to include the protections for authors that were in the Senate bill but not the House bill.

Wrote to him & cc'd our excellent rep @sabadosama.bsky.social Apologized to them if my email was as annoying to them as it is to me. I thought Freedom to Read was one of those things this country gets so excited about. Freedom! Independence! Choose your own books! Not hard.
The legislative year ends on July 31, which means time is running out to protect the freedom to read in Massachusetts. Our H.3594 An Act Regarding Free Expression has still not come up for a vote at the House, so that means it's time to become the most annoying person at the meeting. Call again. Ask for an update. Ask why it's taking so long. Ask for a public statement. Ask ask ask ask. Remember, they work for us.

Every time a book gets pulled from a library because someone object to its content, a kid just trying to survive loses a vital resource. Kids can't survive on our hopes & assumptions. They need real protection. Urge your House Rep to support H.3594.

This is why we need the MA Freedom to Read bill passed. Someone in Falmouth bragging about getting Let's Talk About It - an educational TEEN comic - moved to adult, and admitting to misusing library collections, because they're prudes and bigots. This shouldn't be possible. @massaabb.bsky.social
