Actually disgusting that nurses were treated like utter shit, overworked and dying during the pandemic and RFK on TV told everyone that didn't happen. I can't even imagine a more thankless, hostile job right now.

"As any tradwife will tell you, their whole shtick is that the husband is the breadwinner while the wife is the homemaker. But this is deeply misleading as many of the most popular tradwives are entrepreneurs who are making some serious cash via their channel..."
Nara Smith, infamous trad wife influencer, went on Call Her Daddy to distance herself from the trend that built her brand. Well, we're here to remind you about all the ways Nara Smith and other trad wife creators are perpetuating a dangerous narrative about women's roles.
Demanding to examine a child's genitals for them to play sports is fucking insane
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
Considering that most of the backlash has been from segments that experienced little to no locking down, I’m not sure about this.
it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people remember that COVID lockdowns were unpleasant and from there just extrapolate that they were therefore bad policy
No cheating. Post your lock screen.

For the record: NOPE. Honestly, I don’t think there’s an issue today I care about on a personal level more deeply than trans rights. And it’s rough out there right now. Bigots on one side of the political aisle and too many cowards on the other. ⬇️
Maybe someone has this easier to hand: I'm trying to find an instance where @mercoglianos.bsky.social makes his point that the administration should have been prepared to stop-gap shipping insurance earlier in the Iran war - it's a critique sprinkled in his videos, but I can't find an example.
nice joke, lol, reminds me of this unrelated political thing i can’t stop talking about
Rowling signed the Harper’s Letter, which lamented, “it is now all too common to hear calls for swift and severe retribution in response to perceived transgressions of speech and thought.” Are ANY of her co-signatories — some follow me — going to speak up about her crusade against trans people?
Amnesty International correctly called out Rowling's transphobia. She threatened them in response. And @amnesty.org surrendered. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Same for “I did this as part of my job” and “me having a reason to continue to employ you.” If you think you can outsource your job to an LLM,* why should I keep paying you to do this? *You can’t do this, successfully
So, ok, a thing about telling yr audience "i use AI for my info gathering/research but then I look over it and fix any errors" is that you unfortunately told me youve outsourced your knowledge base on this subject to the machine, and therefore I have no reason to believe you CAN catch those errors
This was my only real issue with Wilson’s review (which I enjoyed reading otherwise). I also just disagree with her opinion that Nolan movies generally feature bad dialogue. Oppenheimer was mostly dialogue and it was the best part of the (flawed but still good) film.
Worth responding to this 'on main.' If Wilson's review had made all of the same analytical points, concluded that the movie wasn't for her and that it was a weak adaptation, that'd be one thing. Instead, she wrote, "I would be ashamed to have written any part of this script." That's different!
No professional accomplishment has ever made me happier than this. theonion.com/translator-o...

imagine getting dunked on by Playboy for being weird about women’s bodies
What are the incel men up to over on X? Focussing on a quirk of women’s bodies most of us have never even thought about before now. Our take? "Making women mad and getting likes from fellow incels is all they have going for them." Read now: www.playboy.com/read/sex/the...
man I will just never get over the fact that the collective response to the pandemic, and an absolutely miraculous vaccine development, was to destroy public health in this country and smear everyone involved I generally take a positive view of humanity overall but it's so depressing
Moreno to Fauci: "Who the fuck did you think you were?"
Half the planet is having a massive fight about how to correctly interpret an Ancient Greek poem but go ahead, close some more humanities departments.
1. This New York Post cover: “Thousands of 9/11 families demand Mamdani be banned from 25th-Anniversary” is a brazen lie. How do I know? I interviewed the organizer of the petition.

It’s nice to see everyone’s textual analysis of The Odyssey It’s almost like the humanities give you entertainment, feelings, pleasure, and fun/interesting stuff to talk about, as well as lenses into both past and current society
Pro tip: regardless of the field you want to major in or do graduate work in, favor universities with good humanities and arts. I can give you the long explanation, but you can think of them as hard to fake signals of many things that are important in unis that are hard to evaluate from the outside.
I dunno Emma Thompson did a great job last time
You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?
There is already a perfect movie about the time when Scrooge was Ebenezer. Accept no substitutes!

I cloned half of myself as a newborn. Twice.
Obviously this guy didn't clone himself, but look at what he imagines cloning could be: a means to create a life from which value can be extracted, without any need to acknowledge or protect the autonomy of that life. Just a chunk of raw materials & data points from which one can enrich themselves.
