It is amazing that the 250th anniversary of America was pretty much just not a thing. You could tell all the companies thought it would be, they had 250th ketchup and ice cream and energy drinks but all we got was a shit ass fair that no one went to

The founder we should talk more about is Thomas Paine, who will fuck your shit up every time. Here he is in The Rights of Man just ripping into any ideas of "originalism" and that kind of garbage.

The parliament or the people of 1688, or of any other period, had no more right to dispose of the people of the present day, or to bind or to controul them in any shape whatever, than the parliament or the people of the present day have to dispose of, bind or controul those who are to live a hundred or a thousand years hence. Every generation is, and must be, competent to all the purposes which its occasions require. It is the living, and not the dead, that are to be accommodated.

The obsession with getting instantaneous election results is weird and unhealthy, serves no real purpose, and feeds conspiratorial nonsense. Increasingly thinking we might be better off just embargoing all results for like a week.

This is because the DC Board of Elections is waiting to release results until everyone has voted, and there were lines of late-arriving voters at some election sites when polls closed. Josh could have easily learned about this (entirely reasonable) policy because the board publicly announced it.

At least the high taxes in blue cities pay for high-quality government services!

NEWS: Debbie Hiott has been fired as general manager of KUT and KUTX in Austin. This follows a public dispute with the University of Texas at Austin over the KUT Festival held last month.
