I did a somewhat deep dive into the recent OpenAI and Anthropic "hacks" for an upcoming interview. IMO, the AI companies are better off running with the "rogue AI" story because the real story is actually pretty embarrassing. Like making your Wi-Fi password "wifi" embarrassing. 🧵

My book on grief and loss under capitalism (and so much more!) comes out in two weeks, which is a wild thing to say. If you haven’t preordered yet, grab a copy from one of the two independent bookstores I’m partnering with, threaded below, so you can get a signed bookplate and other fun things!

Sorry not sorry for the next several months of relentless book promotion, I didn't create this system! But for real, though, if you've ever thought anything I do is any good at all, I hope you'll read this book I poured everything into: geni.us/broughttoyouby

Cannot fucking believe an external 4TB SSD drive that cost me $200 last year is now $1100. Had to check receipts to make sure. They’re really out there trying to keep you from having a PC, phone, or a gaming console so they can have hallucinating, polluting chatbots that drop bombs on kids’ schools.

so like lemme weigh in on this as someone who is more financially comfortable than many in my generational cohort: everything I have gained seems precarious and temporary because I know the people with real money will take it all from me the second they get an opportunity and no one will protect me.

"People have stopped believing that the economy can be good, and have lost the willingness to admit that they are doing well. That pessimism might be harder to fix than an actual downturn," @annielowrey.bsky.social argues.

The Marion Barry Avenue Market and Cafe offers a full-service grocery store in Washington, D.C.’s Ward 8. Christopher Bradshaw, the executive director of the nonprofit Dreaming Out Loud, says the goal is to provide food access, work opportunities, and a place to gather. ➡️ buff.ly/NKrb4q0

Today, we're thrilled to share an excerpt from @sesmith.lol's upcoming book, "All My Dead Cats and Other Losses," on what it means to experience grief that others see as inappropriate, "wrong," or too upsetting. Plus some great pics of their dear cat, Ember. www.coyotemedia.org/grief-is-pol...

Grief Is Political — Even When It’s About Your Pets

The author of the forthcoming book "All My Dead Cats" talks about disenfranchised grief, the politics of mourning, and why a dead cat is the perfect gateway into one of our most avoided conversations.

We must understand that the Voting Rights Act was not merely about ensuring Black Americans rights, it was about democratizing America. This ruling is not just a decimation of Black rights and Black Americans’ ability to have representation, it is a fatal blow to multiracial democracy.

Sorry to be overly sincere for a second, but here's why we decided to persevere through all of the bullshit and take over InfoWars. There's just gotta be a line somewhere. Thank you @pablo.show for letting me talk so openly about this.

FWIW, “girly” jobs means anything women do more than men. Teaching? Used to be a male profession. So did veterinary medicine. So did psychology, pharmacy, and even nursing. Guess what happens as the percentage of women approaches parity? Men literally FLEE from those jobs. 💀

Over the past year, the vast majority of new jobs have gone to women. One economist says to help men find work, we need to embrace ways to "make girly jobs appeal to manly men." n.pr/3OwioTq

Anyway, we have ample research on how living under a state of sustained terror and stress causes life-long health problems as well as intergenerational epigenetic effects. This feels like it's making you sick because it actually is making you sick.

In the original script for The Matrix, the character of Switch was male in the real world but female in the Matrix. Warner Bros ordered the Wachowskis to cut this from the film. Trans Visibility Day is necessary because our cultural gatekeepers have deliberately erased trans voices.

A still from 1999's the Matrix, directed by Lilly and Lana Wachowski. We're in the front seat of a car, raindrops splattering against the window. Switch, an androgynous blonde person is pointing a gun at someone in the backseat. Switch is staring them down, taking no shit. The scene has a greenish tint to everything, indicating that this takes place in the Matrix.
