I’ve lost track of the number of times an immigrant has told me they had to sit on a prison bus in the back of an airport for six, 10, 20 hours with no food or water and being told to urinate in a corner or onto themselves.

When your government says it’s planning to open multiple prisons that will house up to 3,000 children, it’s time to demand a new government. There is no context in which this is legitimate or acceptable.

The Trump regime is looking for immigrant detention camps big enough to hold up to 3,000 children. At an industry roundtable discussion, officials wouldn't say exactly where or when they need them, only that they’re expecting a “surge.” New from me in @prospect.org.

I'm a fan of automatic enrollment in advanced courses, but, unfortunately, in this work we did not find long-term/postsecondary effects of such a program in Washington.

High School Academic Acceleration and Early Postsecondary Outcomes: Evidence from Washington State Megan Austin, Preeya Mbekeani, Ben Backes, Bingjie Chen, & Dan Goldhaber CALDER Working Paper No. 341-0826 August 2026 Abstract: Taking advanced courses in high school predicts positive later outcomes, yet many seemingly prepared students do not take such courses. Acceleration policies that automatically enroll high achieving high school students into more advanced courses have been shown to increase advanced coursetaking, but little is known about the longer-term impacts of these policies. We studied districts in Washington that implemented Academic Acceleration policies, which identified proficient 11th and 12th grade students for automatic enrollment into advanced and dual credit courses. Using a difference-in-differences design, we examined the effects of Academic Acceleration on college enrollment and early postsecondary coursetaking. We found no significant effects of the policy on students’ college enrollment, first-year college coursetaking, or persistence to a second year of college.

This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.

The couple quickly became key to Chicago’s nightlife, curating events and performing in some of Chicago’s most popular venues. They were getting ready for their biggest venture yet: following Karol G’s tour across the country, hosting unofficial afterparties. But on Sunday morning, as the couple walked out of their rideshare outside of Midway Airport, they were apprehended by federal immigration agents. The two were on their way to take a flight to Washington, D.C., the first stop of the tour. They never made it through the door. The Department of Homeland Security said it had arrested Panqueva, 26, and Paez, 27, for overstaying their visas, which both expired in 2022. But their attorney, Enrique Espinoza, said the pair had applied for asylum within the required time frame before their visas expired. The two both have asylum cases, Social Security numbers, work permits and the documents required for their ongoing legal process, Espinoza said.

I have 22 boxes of diapers in my car right now and if you want to give stuff or money to mutual aid groups in Chicago you can do that directly. Here's a good list. If you're like me and cant always buy stuff, you can still help get them to some of the many people in this world who have butts.
