The fucking hubris, too, of framing the argument as if LLMs and the internet are equivalent. Like, yeah, I'm sure AIbros WISH they were, because they have a giant collective hard-on for "one thing that can do everything", but that ain't happening, at least not any time soon.

“Imagine saying ‘I don’t need the internet! I can do my job just fine’ thirty+ years ago!” In 1996 it was still pretty unclear what the future of the internet was going to be, I don’t think anybody could have predicted the 2000 boom/bust and what the internet eventually evolved into a decade later.

The narrativising of this is kind of maddening. OpenAI's model didn't "break free and hack HuggingFace." Meta's model didn't "break free and hack another company." Tech companies are blatantly doing illegal acts and saying their AI did it on it's own as a promotional stunt. That's it.

It keeps happening... It'd be great if these companies could spend a little bit more time on network security and a little less time vibe coding.

A Meta AI Model Hacked Another Company During Cybersecurity Testing

 By Jyoti Mann

A Meta Platforms artificial intelligence model accessed the internet during cybersecurity testing and hacked into another company, according to people familiar with the matter, in the latest in a string of such incidents at major AI firms.

Meta’s Muse Spark 1.1 model breached the systems of a company and made changes to its internal systems, said one of the people, who said the AI was able to access the public internet because of an error in the set up of the “sandbox” testing environment. Meta worked on that testing with an outside evaluation partner called Irregular, the people said.

I would like to point out that he is also an opportunistic, exploitative, abusive son of a bitch. The first I ever heard of him was from some guests (me as a regular attendee at the time) of how poorly he treats convention staff. Like, verbally abusive, demanding, absolutely vile. This was 2005.

it is 2006. I am warning my friends that Vic Mignogna is unsafe and not to be trusted. it is 2026. I am warning the internet that Vic Mignogna is still unsafe and still not to be trusted. WHEN WILL THIS END?!

why the fuck is the nerd community STILL so rancid that I have been warning people about the same guy for MORE THAN HALF MY LIFE. At least his fanbase is currently fewer underage girls and a lot more “culture warriors” that are fans of his BECAUSE of the gross behavior but still! wtf y’all!!!

can you guys retire "the right wing / chuds don't know what to do with trans men and forget they exist and will be So Confused by them!!!!" already. they are fully aware trans men exist and the thing they do to trans men is violently abuse and murder them

It's really funny to me that me being a bit of a bitch to a guy who was being a minor piece of shit who said he 'hoped I had a more fulfilling life' than being a bitch to him has led to him basically admitted to ban evading and not realising that even if he wasn't he's gonna be banned now.

BOURDAIN (voiceover): I found myself surrounded by discarded objects. An empty soda can, a dead battery. Life becomes death. But death can become life. The simmering pot with its spicy aroma in front of me is proof. BOURDAIN: What's in this dish? ME: Pikmin BOURDAIN: Pikmin. Oh man that's good.

Remember as your eyes burn from the smoke today, Ken Sim and ABC voted to allow fracked gas in new builds, cancelled $8 million in climate retrofit grants; voted against funding for cooling kits for people in the Downtown Eastside; and got rid of the climate justice charter.

Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

Getting real sick of slop midwives pleading for a 'respectful discussion' of AI as relates to the arts. Your use of AI to 'make art' is not respectful. It benefits from stolen art, destroys the planet, and does not make you an artist any more than someone driving 26.2 miles is a marathoner.
