I keep seeing arguments for games being expensive due to hyper realistic expectations for art, or simply lots of art. What I don’t see is the actual most costly reason: Indecision Iteration is good, but the yearly rebuilding of entire characters, storylines, and levels, is the most expensive thing

Many factors at play here - not the least of which is higher-ups (in their infinite wisdom) not being able to commit to anything, or knowing good from bad All the while the economy at large expects the profit line go infinitely up, absolutely ignoring its undeniable tendency to do the opposite

I would like to point out that he is also an opportunistic, exploitative, abusive son of a bitch. The first I ever heard of him was from some guests (me as a regular attendee at the time) of how poorly he treats convention staff. Like, verbally abusive, demanding, absolutely vile. This was 2005.

it is 2006. I am warning my friends that Vic Mignogna is unsafe and not to be trusted. it is 2026. I am warning the internet that Vic Mignogna is still unsafe and still not to be trusted. WHEN WILL THIS END?!

Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

Getting real sick of slop midwives pleading for a 'respectful discussion' of AI as relates to the arts. Your use of AI to 'make art' is not respectful. It benefits from stolen art, destroys the planet, and does not make you an artist any more than someone driving 26.2 miles is a marathoner.

It is slightly insane how a really, really good sandwich can make you happier. I'm not even a huge sandwich person (despite my 26 year old email address), but I had a banh mi for dinner that was essentially perfect? I felt refreshed for an entire hour afterwards.

Medicine. Medicine has grown by leaps and bounds. You cannot introduce vaccines that crater cancer rates, cure AIDS, and cure sickle cell, and then tell me things have only gotten worse. Also: Food. To a HUGE degree. I eat what I once considered rare treats every day, now.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

So if you weren't aware this is how non-industry focused art programs treat design and illustration. Seth isn't wrong, the thing is no one is interested in paying for an opinion of the 'human condition', no matter how novel or poignant, but the dragon people are happy to.

Seth Rutledge@eldritch48.bsky.social · 5d ago

"Art" these days means very different things to people. For many, it's something they can contribute to the TTRPG / video game / animation / tv industries - NOT something to express their humanity and POV. They don't want to talk about the human condition, they want to get paid to paint dragons.

I cannot state clearly enough how I don't WANT to be sharing relevant/important news items on this kind of social media. I want dumb shitposts, mundane posts, art, random thoughts, some chaos, etc. i want a place like a weird city park, not times fuckin' square (IYKYK)

Quite literally the reason most of us are here - the robust muting and blocking tools. This isn't about being in an "echo chamber", it's that this is NOT my fucking job and NOT my fucking duty to be here. This is RECREATION. I don't want to deal with bullies and assholes while having fun.

Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
