Early COVID mitigations showed us the power of collective action. The environment began to heal. People with disabilities were accommodated. An entire flu strain was eradicated. Folks reconnected with their local communities. We worked together & saved lives.

“The Trump administration's federal work requirements exempt certain groups of people… But the administration decided that being homeless isn't a medical condition and can't count as an automatic out from having to meet the new requirements.”
Medicaid work rule leaves homeless people in the cold
Conservatives who have long pushed for Medicaid work requirements often said vulnerable people would get a pass. But the federal government's list of exemptions left off homeless people.

WE NEED 4 SEATS TO FLIP THE SENATE. JOSH TUREK SHOULD BE ONE OF THEM. I was researching Josh and came across one of his signature issues: Right to Repair. I had no idea how important this was. Most people in big cities probably don’t either. 🧵

Relatedly: If you're a college professor, and you assume that all of your students can type quickly, efficiently, and accurately on a keyboard, you're almost certainly wrong.
I wonder if students today would be less likely to lean on AI for writing assignments if schools had made sure they could touch-type (at least 60wpm) before having them submit all their assignments online. 1/🧵
Democrats. Republicans. Independents. All more pessimistic about the economy now than in February. The affordability crisis hits everyone. Except billionaires. They're doing great.
This shift to computerized state tests was made possible by schools' adoption of one-to-one devices. Which mostly happened with Covid. And yet, we rarely discuss the possibility that computerizing tests--without first teaching computing skills--might've contributed to subsequent test score declines.
My daughter’s middle school never taught typing, but the computerized state standardized tests included a timed essay section to be completed in a tiny text area.

Guaranteed Basic Income is proving to be a workforce investment, not just a safety net. In Howard County, families used additional income to stay current on rent, reduce debt, pursue education, strengthen employment prospects, and invest in their children's success.
Basic income is a floor to stand on, but also a springboard, whether that's starting a business, making art, or caring for family, without having to prove your worth through production first.
This got me choked up. Ohio, thank you for this. 🙏🏽 And God bless Viles Dorsainvil, Exec Director of the Haitian Support Center. Haitians aren’t criminals. They were here legally under TPS until Trump stripped those protections. Yet we’re humiliating them by forcing them to wear ankle monitors.
