Amazing how corruption, bribery, and policies that contributed to countless deaths somehow stayed within the acceptable range. But the thing that finally crosses the red line is… a red card.

5 Jahre #IchBinHanna. Meine Einordnung ⬇️ #IchBinHanna @drkeichhorn.bsky.social @kubon.bsky.social
Was @drkeichhorn.bsky.social, @kubon.bsky.social & ich vom Referentenentwurf fürs #WissZeitVG halten. Spoiler: Überhaupt nichts. #IchBinHanna

1/ With the DR Congo facing another Ebola outbreak, I’ve been reflecting on research I published on the 2018–2020 outbreak, one of the most violent public health emergencies for healthcare workers. Key lesson: Public health emergencies become far more dangerous when they are politicized.
IMPORTANT: The Dutch invested €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart governments do the math on investing in better mobility. Let’s be clear— it WASTES public money to NOT do it. #CityMakingMath HT @modacitylife.com

"The challenge is not that AI will make societies poorer. Rather, it is that it will make them richer in ways that render many citizens economically dispensable for continued economic growth." My latest in @foreignpolicy.com on why our AI future could resemble the petrostate present.

Phone-free parties are trending and honestly? I want phone-free universities, phone-free cafés, phone-free bars. I want to make eye contact with a stranger and have a random conversation.
“We can't just give someone a self-help book,” says Plante. “We can't just give someone a block on a few apps, tell them to chain their iPhone to the wall, when really what they're looking for is to be propped up in a community of people." www.usatoday.com/story/life/h...
Somewhere Bismarck is looking down in confusion as Germany projects power by sending 4,000 pensioners, 12 buffet stations and a TUI loyalty program through the Strait of Hormuz
If you think the nuclear-powered supercarrier USS Gerald R. Ford is the most powerful ship in the world, you are wrong. It's actually the German cruise ship Mein Schiff 4 (pictured), which successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend
Talking abundance: Just like some EU countries are failing at managing decreased supply of energy sources in a world with 🔥 demand, EU institutions (the ERC) are struggling to deal with similar dynamics in the research space. The outcome will be exiting and/or finding alternatives in both spaces.

Is anyone else genuinely scared about what might happen tonight? The kind of afraid where it feels like the world could cross a line you can’t uncross. I really hope that tomorrow, looking back, this will feel dramatic.
Just had this from Planet Labs, the US government have asked satellite imagery providers for "voluntarily" restrictions on access to satellite imagery. Given a lot of them provide satellite imagery to the USG we can probably guess the outcome of not acquiescing to that request.
It was an honor to serve on the committee selecting the Article of the Year. Very happy to pass last year’s award on to such an outstanding article! 💫🥳

We’re proud to share that JPR now leads its field in gender-inclusive authorship. Between 2000 and 2024, the share of all-male author teams dropped from nearly 75% to ~40%. This shows the value of inclusive publication policies and collaborative research practices in peace and conflict studies.
