Scientist interested in the role of the circadian clock for (patho-) physiology.

The ARC's new grant scheme table, in case you don't want to read through the details (which are here: www.arc.gov.au/system/files...)

The ARC has released their new set of grant schemes ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... Before implementing them, they’re now going to “consult with the sector”. Hopefully genuinely, not just with a few disengaged DVCRs. In the meantime, there’ll be another round of Discovery Projects (DP28).

Nothing in the Budget last night for the ARC. Despite review after review recommending ARC funding be increased, nothing. Year on year, the same thing, no matter who's in Government.

AuPS 2026 Brisbane Symposium nominations is now open, and we invite researchers and educators to submit innovative and engaging ideas for inclusion in the 2026 program. Visit the AuPS 2026 meeting site follow the guidelines and complete your submission by 5pm (AEDT) Wednesday 4th March 2026.

Here’s @jsresearchpro.bsky.social reporting on ridiculous new ARC grant time-scales (e.g. 16 months for DPs). The ARC “did not respond to questions about the reasons for the length of the delays or on how the changes will affect researchers’ planning”. I reckon they haven’t thought that far ahead.

The government can’t claim that medical research is a priority while failing to treat it as one. Nine in 10 leading researchers in Australia are missing out on government support for world‑class proposals, leaving exceptional talent uncertain about their future.

Most researchers miss out on innovation grants while medical fund sits on $25b

Nine in 10 Australian researchers had their “ideas grant” applications rejected last year, even as Australia’s medical investment fund sits on $5 billion more than it was designed to hold.

Interesting article by Kondratov’s lab. The circadian clock is not only required for an efficient metabolism and storage of nutrients, it is also required for the preventive effect of calorie restriction on the hepatic steatosis caused by unanticipated fasting. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Circadian clocks and periodic anticipated fasting prevent fasting-associated hepatic steatosis in calorie restriction

Calorie restriction (CR) improves health and longevity. CR induces a periodic fasting cycle in mammals; our study compares CR with unanticipated fasti…
