The Sunday Times and Sun columnist was editor of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme from 1998 to 2002 and more recently presented shows on Times Radio. He also had a weekly column in The Spectator, where he was an associate editor. He met his second wife, Alicia Monckton, on the magazine and they married in 2008. He was previously married to fellow journalist Rachel Royce. He died on Sunday evening at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Critical Thinking is deep engagement with the relationships between statements about the world. Decoloniality is the process of de-centring and addressing dominant harmful views and practices. Respecting Expertise is the epistemic compact between professionals and society. Slow Science is a disposition towards preferring psychologically, techno-socially, and epistemically healthy practices. The lines between dimensions represent how they are interwoven both directly and indirectly.
