More details on the firing of the National Science Board. The NSF now has no director, deputy director, or board. They have issued almost no new awards in 2026. The plan appears to be to completely destroyed the agency. The details are horrifying and have Russ Vought written all over them.

Board Ouster Raises Further Concerns About NSF’s Future

In 2023 I participated in a hackathon run by NCAR and NVIDIA. Everyone else was working on climate and weather models, we were the only bioinformatics team but it was an incredible opportunity to learn about the utility of GPU-based computing for science. 1/2

"Many in the climate and weather community reacted with shock to the NCAR announcement." No shit, because doing so is so stupid that no one with a brain would consider it.

Trump’s obsession with me is beyond weird. He needs serious help. Since he has no economic policies to tout, he’s resorting to regurgitating bigoted lies instead. He continues to be a national embarrassment.

Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally." The crowd in Pennsylvania then starts chanting "send her back!"

This nice summary by @michiwagner4.bsky.social makes it easy to fit my post in a few characters. Amplicon sequencing is still an affordable and quick way to get good insights into who lives in your samples. Our new primers make sure your vision is 20/20. NOAA hurricane hunters flying aboard a P-3 Orion aircraft ("Kermit") are monitoring Hurricane Melissa as most aircraft steer clear. The storm poses a catastrophic threat to Jamaica and Haiti. The crew are among the many federal workers working without pay during the US government shutdown.

A map image from the Flight Radar 24 service shows the flight track of a NOAA P-3 Orion aircraft flying over the Caribbean Sea, where Hurricane Melissa threatens to bring catastrophic rain and flooding to Jamaica and Haiti. Most other aircraft appear to be steering clear of the area.

The Department of Energy has added these terms to its growing “list of words to avoid” because words are dangerous: climate change green decarbonization emissions energy transition sustainability sustainable clean energy dirty energy carbon footprint CO₂ footprint tax breaks tax credits subsidies

Energy Dept. adds ‘climate change’ and ‘emissions’ to banned words list

It is the latest in a series of Trump administration efforts to dispute, silence or downplay climate change.
