Perfectly possible to think that the accusations of anti-semitism in the Labour party a few years ago were most amplified by hypocrites (guilty of a lot of anti-semitism themselves) *AND* that there was clearly a lot of anti-Jewish stuff among many on the left.

the whole 'nothing has gotten better' discourse is of course fucking stupid in a million ways, but I just wanted to note that average dog lifespan in the United States has increased by two years since 2000.

Just had a Google Scholar ping that something of mine has been cited and they have managed to attach a quote to me that I never wrote and have cited a chapter in my book as a internet source. I know different disciplines have different citation standards, but that's pretty poor...

Back to the history mines, I tell my wife. Just rearranging all my stuff in chronological order, I cheerily tell the cleaner. Pumping it all into the server now, I salute my head of department.

I know we attribute a lot of wrong to social media but I’m pretty sure there was once a time when someone apologising was grounds to sheathe your weapons, not stick the boot in.

Apologies: I’m not online much, I haven't paid any attention to Rod Liddle for a long time, I didn't really know his extremes. I do now: I wouldn’t have posted if I'd known. I’ve seen death of difficult people up close (and its impact on others): that’s the only reason it was on my mind as an issue.

We need to get back to old school wrestling, when Italian guys would pretend to be Indigenous, that’s what’s missing today.

Maybe businesses need to start actually paying to train their own workers rather than decrying the fucking fact that students don't know exactly how to do the job you're hiring them for.

Very sad to say it seems Mike Fossey, aka Mike F. has died. Truly one of the funniest posters of all time and a talented artisan. Had been friends online for many years, but I got to hang out a couple times at shows in Boston and he was funny and sweet in real life too.

My one spicy Odyssey take is that, like all of Nolan's films, it is *profoundly* middlebrow. So those of us who know a fair bit about the source material are annoyed by these very glib moments, but much of the audience isn't even going to spot them or will know just enough to pick up the theme.

I am saddened by the tone of commentary in this place about my former BBC colleague. The level of vitriol seems more suited to the other place. I worked with Rod at the Today programme. He took no prisoners, but he was witty and personally capable of genuine warmth. My sympathy to his family.

I’m very much on the “don’t speak ill of the dead” side of civility but that doesn’t mean distorting what someone did with their life, particularly if they used their position to hurt others. Liddle was not a brilliant provocateur. He used misinformation to whip up hate against bedbound people.

OK, a lot of you need to just block rather than interacting beyond 2 (two) posts with the willfully thick. Let's not reward this sort of engagement here.
