Only good vibes, please. Tar Heel in the PNW.
It is infuriating that my tax dollars are being spent on vanity propaganda.
On the 20th anniversary of Zotero's 1.0 release on October 5, 2006, I wrote a history of the collaboration and years it took to create the popular research tool now used by over 20 million people: newsletter.dancohen.org/archive/the-...
The Slow Formation of Durable Software
How a group of historians took years to imagine Zotero, the research application that would eventually be used by millions

I was in grad school in the history dept. at George Mason while they were developing Zotero and it was exciting to see it come together and use the tool early on. "Research, not re-search!"
Cool deep dive into Zotero's origins
I picked up something similar to this off craigs list when I was in grad school and put it in a closet at my house. Then, I ordered microfilm on interlibrary loan and worked on my thesis at home.

I have caught myself spiraling into more politics on this site because I have OPINIONS, but I'm on bluesky specifically not to be awash 24/7 in the muck. So send me the books you are reading, pics of pets and landscapes, personal victories, and favorite recipes. Let's see some of the good stuff.
I strongly dislike the Padres, but I'm not sad the Cubs are losing.
Saw this Wendell Berry quote today: "The standard of the exploiter is efficiency; the standard of the nurturer is care." I can't wait to squawk "EFFICIENCY IS THE STANDARD OF THE EXPLOITER" in meetings any time someone uses the word
"Mr Smith is true you recently attended a football game with Buffalo Bill?! FROM SILENCE OF THE LAMBS?!" "No, the name of the team is the Buffalo Bills." "WHERE ARE THE GIRLS MR SMITH?!??!"
Stepping on a rake levels of embarrassing, really.
He was so excited he timed a little “sources say he’d be a great VP pick” in Axios to go with it.
In my day, BBC knew the difference between material and materiel

i agree with the key point here and will add to it that there IS a reward, it’s knowing you did one right thing instead of walking around plagued by the nameless shame that afflicts all men who are determined to live the most frictionless lives possible
i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward
realizing i never posted it here….but too long have we been limited by the 2-dimensional political alignment chart. i think by using my new tool we can truly map another person's politics. here it is: The Ideology Cube

Photographer: ok. You two hold hands, & you, in the back, hold a gun to that guy’s head. Nice. I’ll add blush in post.
