Trump just shrunk Bears Ears by 91% and Grand Staircase-Escalante by 90%. Bears Ears was the first national monument co-managed by tribes. Five tribes spent years building that partnership. It's been walked back. 100,000+ archeological sites now exposed to mining and drilling.

“the dark secret of the ones long married, A pleasure never mentioned to the young, Is the sweet heat made from two bodies in a bed Curled together on a winter night, The smell of the other always in the quilt, The hand set quietly on the other’s flank—“

I love it in cdramas where the cheating ex is like “I just made the mistake all men make!” and it turns out the mistake included like, burning her dead mother’s belongings to make the mistress happy. SIR

I'm going to keep saying this until it's rote practice: If you are in official connection with let alone in charge of an archive of data, if is your professional & moral responsibility to secure that archive, as a backup or otherwise, against just such an emergency, so we're not Hoping some kid did.

Incredible. When E—n M—k & his crew obliterated USAID in a weekend, they deleted a vast trove of publicly-funded knowledge: the Development Experience Clearinghouse. A Canadian high school student (!) happened to have downloaded the entire thing for a project. AidData has now posted it for all.

yall remember when you used to laugh about why so much ancient military instruction boiled down to “no, SERIOUSLY, you HAVE to feed your soldiers!” it’s because militaries used to be commanded by failsons like the ones who run ours now, and the idea that their soldiers were people didn’t connect

The cruelty is the point: "moldy showers, broken toilets, laundry down for weeks, long stretches with no hot water, a meal that came down to half a cup of rice and two tortillas. No soap, deodorant, or toothpaste"

The background crowds in Cdramas crack me up because they perform the same function as a Greek chorus. So as the story unveils, they’ll change sides back and forth, and when the villian’s mask finally drops, they’ll point fingers and shame them. Sometimes they throw food, that’s my favorite part.

Correct. (Word counts etc.) It is also hard to overstate how much the establishment democrats and leadership were and are aligned with technology. The SV culture, the money, and the theory of mind — they are enamored with it.

The only thing I'd add to @tressiemcphd.bsky.social's fine work this morning is that the establishment Dems have an ideological blind spot around organizing. They overindex on capital-intensive forms of mobilization and are completely lost when it comes to labor-intensive forms of mobilization.

This is Dozer, the adorable six-banded armadillo (Euphractus sexcinctus) at the Akron Zoo, enjoying bed & breakfast. SIX-banded 'dillos are native to South America while Texas 'dillos are NINE banded. Although they look *similar*, they're as far apart evolutionarily as housecats & hyenas.
