Contingent Magazine pays its writers. It always has. It's paid hundreds of contingent historians over the last eight years. It's always been donor-funded, and most of those donors? Contingent historians themselves. For the first time, we're not sure we can pay for a full December issue.

Great day at Cheltenham Literature Festival. Rich and fun conversation with the wonderful Daze Aghaji around what Morris can mean for us today. And a dear friend who I studied botany with way back (not David Suchet😄) came to grab a post talk pint. Friendly audience helped me sell out of books too!
Today I found out that Umberto Eco crafted a version of this meme in the 1980s…

Medievalism/Vikingism in the blood bank: a Viking in the red and white Danish national colours attempts to recruit more volunteer plasma donors. Note the military terminology: “oprustning” means “(re)armament” Added argument on this postcard: Right now, we have to buy US plasma. Fascinating times.
Special for dirtbag medievalism friends: I am going to be putting on my best participant-observer hennin and asking some of these folks why they do what they do (helps that my downstairs neighbor is the bartender at the venue). What do you want to know?
